I didn't want to like it...I only read it because so many of my students were carrying it around and I was bored on conference day and checked it out from the library. While it isn't the greatest literary creation ever, I think the story is amazing and draws you in until you find yourself staying up until all hours of the night reading it! Bella and Edward had me hooked, and have kept me hooked through several re-readings. Sometimes I just want some good escapist fun...and this was perfect!

Very good book--definitely worth reading. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (1881-1955), Jesuit, a brilliant paleontologist and a theologian (he would not have claimed to have been a theologian), ran afoul of the Jesuit and Catholic hierarchy because of his views on evolution. The Church forbade him from publishing his works and, to totally silence him, exiled him to China in 1922 and made him stay there until the Communist took over China after World War II. While there, he participated in the discovery of the Peking Man, a major discovery that furthered the acceptance of the theory of evolution. What a testament--God will not be defeated!!!! Teilhard submitted to the authority of the Jesuits, retained his integrity as a world class scientist and never wavered in his faith. Much of his writing, which is now standard reading in many seminaries, recounts his efforts to reconcile science and the Christian faith. This book tells the story of much of Teilhard's life and his participating in one of the great paleontological discoveries of the 20th century, including his faithfulness and the pain and loneliness it caused him.

One of those books you can hardly believe was written four centuries ago. Pascal's pensées are surprisingly modern and profound, leaving the reader with enough reflection material for at least a year.
Reading Timequake was something like listening to a long, rather disjointed, rant from a mildly crotchety old person. Few things are more subliminally intelligent and entertaining then this. Vonnegut was opinionated, and insightful. His unapologetic attitude mixed with his snippets of strong humility make this novel rather gripping and uniquely human. But the real cherry on top is that he was old as hell when he wrote Timequake. Best Hoosier ever.

a wonderful saga beautiful writing cant wait to read the last book !
I really liked this book because it was interesting and had to do with a popular girl who wanted to not be popular.
Really enjoying this, so far! It's an encouraging read for a 47 year old. Interesting research and anecdotal stories on the middle-aged brain.

Posted At: Riverina Romantics Rating: 5/5 * Romance Rating: 4/5 <3 I have never cried from reading a book before. Never. And guess what? This book made me do just that. I don't know what it was about this book that grabbed my heartstrings the way it did, but by the time I read the final word on the last page, my eyes were tearing and I had a huge grin on my face. That is how you know you read a good book. I honestly don't know what to say about this one. Amun and Haidee were such a perfect match for each other. My heart was already being twisted when it came to Amun, all because of how the previous book ended and this one began. Just picturing him and his condition was enough to make me wish I could just make it all disappear. It was torture. But I'm so glad Haidee had the personality she did, because any other woman would not have been able to complete Amun the way she did. She was every single complement to our beloved demon, and made him so much more than he had been reduced to. They saved each other from their own personal hells--and gave each other a happiness that neither believed they would ever have. Him and was incredibly passionate and caring man. He was lucid enough, everybody had, everything he did, screamed to the loyalty and commitment that could rival even the most pure hearted creature. He never once did anything selfishly. It was all for the betterment of his friends, even at a great cost to himself. He didn't see it as anything negative. He believed the sacrifices were pivotal to improving the lives of his brothers and their loved ones. Never once he regret anything he did for them. He was a complete giving soul, and those gifts were worth anything he endured. I have never believed a character to be nobler than him. It was mind blowing, and brought me such joy to experience it from his point of view. And dear God, Haidee! I cannot imagine having to go through what she had to endure. I don't think I would've remained sane. She was a very strong woman, she had to be. Her determination, her wit, and her loyalty--once it found its true place--were unshakable. All because of the mistaken identity, she was able to open her mind to a whole new world of possibilities. Even though she didn't understand why, she embraced it, and she discovered her life would have been forever incomplete. Her bonding to Amun was so deeply believable. Had it been done any other way, I don't think I would've bought it. She was truly an amazing and strong woman. The things in her past, the hell she was shoved into, it would've made any normal woman died of a heart attack. But Haidee push through it and excelled. She beat her past. She defeated her fear. And she won love. This installment of my beloved Lords was beautiful. It has definitely earned a spot on my favorite shelves.

I so wanted to love this book, but it just didn't quite tick all my boxes. Firstly it was plain and simple too long- things were too drawn out and points made over and over and then perhaps reiterated once again! And secondly it was just too militant for me in places. To be honest I enjoyed opposing Anna in parts - a brilliant book for stimulating discussion! - but overall it was pretty OK, not quite as spectacular as I had hoped. eta: I only just, two years after reading, noticed the similarity between Wulf and Woolf... coincidence?

This is my Goonies of books. It's the book I've read the most in my life just like how Goonies is the movie I rented/watched the most times. They both share the theme of young friends on an adventure where they learn a little more about themselves. Isn't that what life is essentially? I loved it. And should also read it again. Where's my copy?
