This was a great first novel by Oliver Potzsch, though you can definitely tell he's a screenwriter. He chose a great topic - his family history. There seemed to be a lot of time spent running between the various locales in Schongau and describing the same feelings (e.g. the metallic taste in the young physician's mouth when running), which dragged this novel on farther than it should, but the book was thoughtfully-written and characters were well-developed. The only question is why the book was titled "The Hangman's Daughter" when the book was much more about the Hangman and Physician's son.

First off, although this series takes place first in dates, one should read the Song of the Lioness books first. Terrier had a good plot for a first book in a series, but probably couldn't stand alone. At times, I was frustrated with the characters, but that is what makes Pierce's books so enjoyable to me; her characters aren't perfect because they act like real human beings. Excellent book, make sure you are at least halfway through it before you judge the plot. Being the first in the series, it does a lot of explaining, but it will be needed.

This is a fascinating subject, but the writing is a bit dry. I'm about 2/3 through it, but it has been set aside in favor of some more exciting books received at Christmas. I would strongly recommend this book to anyone interested in international development.

I expected it to be AMAZING based on the reviews....Perhaps, I had my expectations too high. Parts of the book were very witty (which I throughly enjoyed!), but others (especially things that I couldn't relate to) were somewhat annoying.

This is like a travel book but with heart and soul. The author moves to Italy and restores an old house (these are the only things the book has in common with the movie). She basically just talks about the house and about everyday life, which you would think would be pretty boring, but it isn't. I honestly wanted to cook only Italian food and go retrace her steps after reading the book. What a romantic and beautiful culture. P.S. I thought about you Maggie during the whole book. I think because I knew you loved it, the book contains recipes, and you lived in Italy for a month.

Que c'est bon de retrouver les fabuleux personnages de Claudia Gray ! J'ai été conquit par cet opus qui surpasse incroyablement bien le premier tome de cette série ! Le style est toujours aussi fluide et efficace ! Les personnages sont très attachants..... en bref, un agréable moment de lecture ! J'ai bien envie de lire le tome 3 !
