I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I especially liked the way the hero, Wolfe, would every now and then speak to the heroine, Daphne, in French. The author gave the English interpretation of the conversation, which was a great help. Wolfe made love to Daphne only in his native tongue, which made the love scenes passionate and romantic. I have to admit, I could see why some compared her to Kleypas, because although she is new to this genre, she has a unique powerful voice. I see great things for this author.

Not my cup of tea. I've read other Jean Plaidy and really enjoyed them but this one wasn't one I enjoyed all that much. There was too much explanation of what happened and not enough of it actually happening.

Have I ever told you how much I love the Simon Romantic Comedy series? They're amazing when you're looking for a quick read that's still written excellent. Micol Ostow writes so that you feel what the character's feeling. When Laine does something embarresing in front of Seth (which you know will happen eventually), you feel embarresed. I actually started blushing one of the times! The writing was really good, and I could really connect with all the characters, not just Laine. if you're looking for a light romance read, then Crush du Jour is the book for you.

Initial thought: This book is a freaking DIARY. After reading the first sentence in it, a thought came to my mind--What if someone were to read my journal? So I confess I felt a trifle unnerved while reading certain parts of it. “Although I'm only fourteen, I know quite well what I want, I know who is right and who is wrong. I have my opinions, my own ideas and principles, and although it may sound pretty mad from an adolescent, I feel more of a person than a child, I feel quite indepedent of anyone.” Overall, it is very well- written. One thing that did annoy me, was the insane amount of typos in the book. I know it is a Dutch to English translation, but still. Think about it- while Anne Frank was penning her thoughts down, she never knew it was going to be published. So you cannot possibly blame her for the lack of an actual plot. I have to admit, most of the content consisted of her talking about her "boy-friends" or constant whining about her family and her insane inferiority complex; and not about the war. But apart from that, I LOVE the writing style. At some point, I felt like I could relate to her quite a lot even though this was written about 60 years ago.

** spoiler alert ** To summarize this book in two words: dragons and betrayal. The kids and I were reading this like crazy and we loved it and then shocking things happened right at the end. (I had been suspicious in a previous book, but I was distracted in this one and then SLAM). It kind of took the air out of our sails and made us sad. This book is more violent also and I think the kids were a little freaked in parts. The book, like all of them in the series, has some closure in it though. I don't mind the betrayal in the aspect that it's a perfect discussion point. In the battle against sin/evil there will be some who fall. It's a fact. It's happened and it will keep happening. I keep thinking of Benadict Aarnold... This book is very exciting and we look forward to the final book.
