I was a little skeptic upon reading The Mysterious Benedict Society due to its longevity and supposed difficulty to read. But I was very impressed upon reading it. The book contained many clever riddles that (along with the characters) you must solve, and many surprising plot twists. The unpredictability of this book made guessing what would happen next nearly impossible because literally anything could happen. It was delightful from start to finish because this book openly engaged me, and sometimes I felt as if I was a part of the "society" the main protagonist were in! A character in this book that was very notable was Kate. She's an orphaned girl who joins then quits the circus, and also relies heavily on her bucket to carry her many particularly random tools around. She starts off a little wild in the beginning; being very stubbornly independent. But she opens up to the rest of the gang, and ends up using her bucket of tools to nearly save her and her friends lives numerous times. She learns that she must depend on other people to help her out because she cannot do everything by herself. The book thoughout preaches about your own uniqueness (without being corny) by showcasing all of the protagonists talents, and making feel more understanding of my, and other peoples', uniqueness. Reynie excels at leadership, he can spot riddles and is a big-hearted peace-maker. Sticky has a vast almost unfathomable knowledge and can memorize anything regardless of length. Kate, as mentioned above, can use her bucket of tools to get her and her friends out of danger; she also does not fall under pressure easily. Constance is rather tricky, she will refuse to do anything or actually work, so she is often seen as deadmeat to her friends, but her stubbornness will soon to be proven one of the most important keys of the book. The book was close to flawlessness being that it had a hook the entire novel, witty humor, and even an almost tear-jerking climax. I would stay up for nights just waiting to see what would happen next and only to come across a magnificent plot-twist. I highly recommend this book for young people because of its beautiful story flow, and because it is an intellectually stimulating novel.

You can check out this review and many others on my blog, The Reader's Antidote There are honestly no words to describe how much I loved this book. I know, coming from a book blogger that doesn't sound like a good thing considering I received this book specifically for review. But it was really just that amazing and is up there as one of my favorite dystopians. It had been on my wish list for a while, so when I came back from a Michael Grant signing (also a HarperTeen author), well you can imagine my surprise and happiness when I opened the package from the publisher. And the cover is beautiful, so sparkly! Immediately, you're drawn in. And then the first line: I've been locked up for 264 days. By then, you're so gone it doesn't even matter if you have two tests and three papers due the next day. You're going to finish Shatter Me whether you want to or not. Mafi has a beautiful way of writing. her descriptive imagery at every turn is uncanny and really it's what made this book. The story is wonderful and the plot is nearly flawless, but the language is what did it for me. I think that's why modern retellings of Shakespeare never work because most of the language is cut out. I've heard word that they've already auctioned rights off for this one, and to be honest I hope they don't end up going through with it. It'll lose its potency. And that's a compliment. Juliette was a very likeable character. As in all dystopians, the main character is always a little rough around the edges. It's even more difficult for Juliette though because she hasn't had any human interaction for almost a year. And who walks in? A boy. A boy that she remembers distinctly, but doesn't think that he remembers her. How wrong she is. But this isn't your everyday dystopian. Oh no. The reason Juliette is locked up in the first place is because she killed someone just by touching them. When the tagline mentions that it's like Hunger Games and X-Men combined, it couldn't be more accurate. Wait, an accurate tagline? No way, you say? You'll have to read to find out! And the cover is also very fitting. Juliette actually does end up wearing dresses eventually and her hands are placed behind her back because she's not supposed to touch anyone. And as we all know, I'm a cover whore so I loved it the moment I held it in my hands. I want the rest of the series right now! Get your own two hands on a copy of this one as soon as possible. You won't regret it.

liked: the actual mystery, the time period didn't like: the character was just too too. Insanely rich, insanely cool, insanely well dressed, insanely smart - over the top. (think tom cruise's character in Knight and Day) She was able to do things that the author didn't quite explain how the character had pieced things together or just how something was accomplished.
This book is simply beautifully and poetically written. It's an engaging mystery novel set in Spain with themes of love, family, dreams, and the adventure and escape that books can provide. No review would do it justice, so I'll just stop there. : )

It is an awesome book written by an awesome author! I sat for a test about this book at my first year in the faculty and I was the only one who got a good mark! snaps for me!
So, I read this book between two heavy-duty distopians. I knew I'd need some relief, and I'd had this on my list for a longgg time. It was brilliant! The writing was easy and fun. I was cracking up CONSTANTLY, and all of the charecters-Anna, St.Clair...were so believable and sweet. I really enjoyed how Anna made mistakes, but that they weren't ones that made me want to end her ink-and-paper life. I've dreamed for days about going to a boarding school in France! I have to give this book 4 stars because-as Anna says-I'm not going to be a critic that's soft and gives everything I read five stars. But it was a good book. Definately not thought provoking, nothing that will make my top-books-of-all-awesomeness list, but a good book. Light, romantic, funny-give it a read when you need a pick-me-up!
This is a really good book. This is for sure a girly book. It is a bout a princess, who has a failing heart, and a peasant. They are friends, but will they become more? And will the princess find her perfect heart? Read this book to find out. This is a book that I will suggest to 3rd-6th graders. I really liked this book because it was a romantic book. I remember when I was in 3rd grade, I had this book read to me. I will, and always love this book.
One of Julie Garwood's better modern romances.

I really enjoyed this book once I got into it. The author goes back and forth between 1913, 1975 and 2005 to weave and then unravel the Mystery. Compelling characters! What happens next?
