Meinen zumindest seine Berliner Kumpels – Sebastian will heiraten.
This is a great little book and a fun story that portrays a kid with autism. Written in a style similar to Augesten Burrohs/David Sedaris, but through the mind of an austic kid. Actually, that doesn't sound much off from those other two authors.... A good rec for anyone who knows or works with autistic kids.

Love so much about this one: Merlin growing youngerly foolish, the visit to the ants, Arthur's wistful knowingness, Lancelot's strange appearance, all of the intrigue and tragedy, "Wart." I've read and reread it, and thinking about it now makes me want to all over again. The first part of the book was adapted into Disney feature The Sword in the Stone and lost all of the mystery and magic of T. H. White's telling.

wonderful!! allegorical, urban fantasy/coming of age/facing one's fears/accepting life as it is novel. Lyrical prose at it's finest, right up there with the best. Smart, passionate, tension and dangers real, characters strong and settings beautifully depicted.

*Spoiler Free* This novel was so creepy! Seriously. Victoria Scwab's writing was hauntingly beautiful and the descriptions of the town of Near were crystal clear in my head. The actual plot was unlike anything I have ever read before. The world was set in a fairy tale time, sort of medieval but not. It felt so magical, other-worldly almost that it's difficult to find an analogy to explain it. But believe me when I tell you this; it was special. Near was beautifully described and if could go there I would...(except for the whole kidnapping aspect). Lexi was an awesome protagonist and she never would admit defeat. She was exactly the type of heroine I love: strong, kick-ass and a bit too stubborn. She never took 'no' for an answer and I felt her frustrations at being singled out because she was a girl. I also really liked how Victoria Schwab weaved in Lexi's memories particularly those to do with her father. They really added to the amazing story-telling. The minor characters in this book were great too. I loved Magda and Dreska, I admit I was a bit scared of them but they definitely grew on me. One character I adored was Lexi's mother. Her quiet disposition made it appear she was a weak character but she was anything but. And the fact that she was so quiet, but still determined, made me like her even more. THE VERDICT 4 stars - An amazing chilling debut by Victoria Schwab. For more of my reviews and other bookish goodness go to: http://bookchowdown.blogspot.com/

I love mystery books and The Dark Stairs was very well written and the details were great.
I was in tears at the end of this book. It gives an entirely new perspective on what Christ actually did for us, for me, and thank God He gave us someone like C.S. Lewis to renew the meaning behind the reason for my daily gratitude!
This book starts off with a bang, sort of hangs in the middle, but gets back to its message soon enough. It's almost an autobiography/manifesto, but I enjoyed it and look forward to reading the guy's next book.

I've read this book a couple times. The entire series is good (5 books so far) and have all kinds of fun historical "firsts" by the protagonist. Not quite as good as the first two, but not bad either.

I borrowed The Children's Machine from the library because they didn't have Mindstorms, also by Seymour Papert. While the book was interesting enough as I was reading it, I have to admit that I got to the end not entirely understanding what he was trying to say with the whole book. He's talking about ways that computers can completely rework the ways that schools are run and the way children are educated, but I didn't feel like I left the book really understanding what his proposal for "rethinking school" was. Papert is the inventor of the Logo programming language, which some of you may remember as the "turtle" language you used to draw shapes on a computer screen in elementary school. He's also done a lot of work with Lego (it is no coincidence that Lego Mindstorms share a name with his 1980 book). He provides some very interesting anecdotes of children working with Logo and Lego and does manage to delve quite a bit into how children use these tools/toys, so I think the book is valuable for these insights, but it felt a little disjointed to me and didn't seem to spend as much time rethinking schools as I expected it to. Interesting, but I wish I'd been able to read Mindstorms instead - that seems to be his most famous/important work.
