"A charming story of the dynamics between three sisters who return home when their mother is diagnosed with breast cancer. Rose, the eldest, is the most solidly grounded sibling but her fiance has taken a job in England and she faces an impossible choice. Bean has been living the high life in New York City and is now broke and Cordy, the youngest, starts to realize her wandering ways cannot last forever. At times, Eleanor Brown uses a collective "we" voice for the sisters - an insightful choice for these characters who are so different but also so similar. Even though quotes from Shakespeare are sprinkled throughout (their father is a Shakespeare-obsessed professor), this is an easy, entertaining read with distinct characters and interesting personal dilemmas and relationships." --Chris / Griffith Branch Click here to request this book at LCPL

This is the 12th in this wonderful series. I do love these books. Back Cover Blurb: With the Rector Peter Harris and his family back from Africa, the villagers of Turnham Malpas heave huge sighs of relief - everything seems to be back to normal. But Peter has other ideas, and returns to Africa to fulfil a promise. In Turnham Malpas, the family he leaves behind is a very troubled one - the twins, Beth and Alex, are still disturbed by their traumatic experiences in Africa, and Caroline is finding it hard to deal with the fact that they will not share their feelings with her. The villagers are also missing Peter's guidance, especially when the village store is the target of petty theft and violence. Everyone is banking on Peter's return to help restore harmony - but will he make it back before things get out of hand....?
I loved this book! It was fun to read, I almost read it straight through.

4.5 stars! Molly moved back to her hometown of Tumble Creek to escape her creepy stalker ex & write in peace. Except that as soon as she gets back into town, a decade's worth of fantasies start coming true with her unrequited high school crush & gorgeous Chief of Police, Ben. However, while she & Ben are feeling out the waters of what seemed inevitable, she's being stalked again & she can't figure out who it is. Between the secrets, the stalker, & the HOT tumbles in bed, you won't be able to put this book down. This book was my first suspenseful romance & it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time! I really like Molly a lot & Ben is just incredibly adorable as the shy to everyone else kinda guy that gets to you in a quiet but permanent way. They had great, believable interactions that made it a true pleasure to read. The stalker bit was a new element in books I read & it was definitely creepy since it's pretty much a girl's worst nightmare, especially when living alone, but I thought that Dahl did a fantastic job of really putting us in the moment with Molly & rooting for things to work out in every aspect. I already love Molly's brother, Qhuinn & am looking forward to the next story & other works by Victoria Dahl! Thank you, Leah darling, for the recommendation. :D

Impossible to rate this one because, when I read it in 1967 I fell in love with: Howard Roark [how could you not?]; Ayn Rand; architecture; the love scene in front of the heroine's fireplace; and individualism [which translates philosophically and politically into Libertarianism, I suppose]. Now I would find Roark insufferably arrogant and not involved enough in helping other people, and I bet the novel is poorly written. So 5 stars it would've gotten from me in 1967, and maybe 2 stars now, maybe 1. Still can't believe they cast Gary Cooper as Roark in the 1950's movie version of the novel.
Hemingway and his lovable first wife Hadley - hard drinking, fast living, hobnobbing with who's who among authors and artists - living in France, traveling to Spain for inspiration. Well told.

This is one of the few horror books that actually made me not to want to put it out of my hands. Psychological horror, which I love.
