I found Stevensons "Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde" in a book along with some other short stories he wrote, including "The suicide club" and "the body snatchers". In regards to Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, I greatly enjoyed reading it. It is always a pleasure to finally read a classic that has permeated popular culture in as much as this one has. As for the other stories, except for "The Body Snatchers", Stevensons stories were all appealing at first, then disappointing as it continued. Frankly after I read DJ/MH and started the others, I'd wish I hadn't.

I read this back in HS, and it is one of the only required readings that I didn't care much for. I really did not like this book. I might like it better if I were to read it now, but I strongly doubt it. I didn't ever care about the characters, and spent a majority of the book annoyed at the main character. This is one of the few books I have no desire to ever reread. I might read it again to remember it better, but I have so many other books I would rather read, that I would just feel like I was wasting my time on this one.

Absolutely the best political book out there. Caro is an amazing author and historian. LBJ was possibly the most effective Senator in US history and this book shows why. Anyone who wants a better understanding of the legislative process and the US Senate must read this book!

Sylvia Plath is amazing! I thought her novel might be laden with melancholy, but she has a sense of humor and self-deprication which makes her character extremely likeable and worthy of sympathy as well as laughs. It's a very quick read. I can't believe I never read anything of Plath's before. I only wish she wrote more novels!

Vinegar Hill was an easy read. Even in my bleary-eyed 11pm reading states this week, I was able to finish it within a few days. That said, I won't pretend it was a great story, but it did hold my attention. This family is full of disfunction, and so it was sort of like that fascination of watching a train wreck-- some of it was horrifying or gruesome and yet I couldn't stop reading, wanted more; I wanted to know what happened next! Soo... a great read but not a great story. I think, too, Ansay's style is one which I happen to enjoy. The writing is stark & to the point without a bunch of flowery language. It's a book much geared to women's issues & so thus, I'd deem it a "girl book" :) I'm a girl & so that's okay. Just putting it out there...

This is my newest reccomendation to everyone who has read and loved the Kited Runner. This is about a South African boy in the late 1930's who learns to overcome many obstacles. A very inspiring book!

Winterson's writing is amazing... The only reason I didn't rank it higher is because I honestly didn't finish reading it yet (had to give it back) and some of the essays/short stories I didn't like nearly as much as her novels. That said... most of what I read in there I thought was incredible and loved. I want to re-read everything in there and write a better review, but for now, all I can say is I think everyone should read her work.
