Slow at the beginning and I really wasn't sure that I liked the book or the characters for most of the book, but in the end, I really did. It is a very human, very well crafted story that had some very unexpected themes - themes that were surprisingly relevant to my life.

Awesome. The ending is a little disappointing. It's not bad, but it's not as good as it could have been.

Bought from Amazon, and I still own a copy. APART OF THE GOODREADS 2012 READING CHALLENGE. Review/Rating: 4 out of 5 Ease of Reading Text: 4 out of 5 Illustrations: 5 out of 5 Plot: 5 out of 5 Art Touch-Up: 5 out of 5 Translation: 4 out of 5 Design: 5 out of 5 Kyoko has finally started finding some of the 12 telepaths. She discovers that the telepaths are the heads of the Kirito tribes. When she finds 4 out of 12, Ui starts talking. However, will Kyoko be able to survive the emotional blow that Ui blows? The artwork and designs for this series are still great, so I won’t go that much into the artwork. :P The details and everything still look good. ;) I love the “kitty mode” drawings, but there isn’t as many as her other manga. :D And also, the new characters’ designs look so good. *___* Anyways, I’m really starting to love this series. The plot and everything is really starting to fall into place. :) There are finally some nice twists that will kind of try to throw you, but it makes the plot so much better. Also, those twists might be easy to predict even before they happen, but it’s still good. The new characters are also very interesting. Even the side characters are pretty interesting, like Mizuno, Sarai, and Anako. You also get some new information on old characters — like Kyoko. ;) Also, you can tell that there is a lot thought put into the characters, even the minor ones. :D Oh, and there is more romance between Sakataki and Kyoko. \o/ Overall, the story and characters are developing well; and the story is very interesting to read. Oh, and the artwork is very good too. :P For VIZ’s part, they did an good job on the translation and the art touch-up, but the SFX translations were still a little odd. Also, one of the freetalk text was a little too small. But overall, they did a good job at bringing this manga into English.
Heavens, this was a lot more readable than I'd expected. The first half was written in 1992, so its ideas are pretty well known by now. Still, it's always nice to have your suspicions articulated. But there's always that part of me that wonders when I'm reading something like this - what's the point in knowing about the lie of democracy etc when you're not going to do anything about it?

This is an amazing audiobook. If you have never listened to a book before, or if you are a seasoned listener, I can't recommend this highly enough. I am devastated that it's over. I will miss those voices in my head.

Enjoyable. I really liked all the mathematical references that made the book much more interesting. Intellectually stimulating but the plot unravels at the end, that was disappointing

My mission trainer said she read this book and it changed her life, so I thought I'd give it a try. At first, I was a little taken back--like, does this really agree with what I've been taught? It has some very good ideas--mainly how to appreciate life, just do your best, and be alright with yourself. I have thought about its principles while I've tried to be a better parent. It was worth the read to me--but it isn't doctrine.

Like the first book of the series, I really liked this one. That said... The stupidity of people!! It's normal for everyone to have things that need to be overcome and gotten over before they can move on but the way the main heroine, Isabel, handled things - or more accurately, the way she avoided handling them - really annoyed me at times! She kept making her life and the life of those concerned (the hero for example, Nicholas) way more difficult that it needed to be just because she had put labels on people and was certain that everyone would just fall under the same category as those who hurt her. Yes, we get it, people have the ability to hurt you. We also get that you're a big girl and don't need anyone(riiiight!). Will you stop acting like a brat already and get over your insecurities and move the hell on? After the rant, the only other thing that kind of nagged me a little was the fact that the author kept repeating some phrases over and over. They may have not been very close to one another but they were certainly there and I do not enjoy repetitions. And among those repetitions are Isabel's thoughts and reasons for acting like a brat, but I already mentioned those so that's done. Apart from that, I enjoyed the book and the fact that the characters are flawed (obviously :P) and more or less realistic. I won't comment on the fact that the couple were desperately in love with one another after the shocking period of *gasp* a week (it may have been even less now that I think about it...), since it was a different time then and people were funny that way - what with marrying being the first and foremost thing in her minds and women being all tolerant to any faults their respective husbands may have if they're rich enough to allow them their lifestyle of luxury and absolute uselessness. Looking forward to reading Juliana's story - the differences between her and her love interest, the stuck up Duke of Leighton, should make their story a fun one.

I read this book for a Native American Literature class way back in college. I was thinking about it again because I'm reading Sherman Alexie right now. The book is the total package: great story, grounded in historical research, and totally engrossing. If you want a sense of what life in the plains was like colonization, this is the book to read.
