I really liked this one. I liked Luke & Catherine. I won't run down what the story was about, lots of other reviews do a good job of that. Anyways, overall a nice read with an interesting storyline.

This was a strange read which kept me going but I wasn't emotionally involved at all. The end went on forever.

I started and never finished this book years ago, and I am so glad that I returned to it. Nix presents a world that is utterly unreal, yet somehow familiar. At first, anyway. It is a story of magic, yet it is a kind we've never seen. Nix calls it the Charter, and it is so clever and original. Sabriel herself is very well written, a girl on the cusp of womanhood suddenly enmeshed in a crisis she is largely unprepared for. The rest of the cast of characters are nothing if not memorable, featuring Mogget, a sarcastic sometime-cat, and Touchstone, a frightened, guilt-ridden hero.I highly recommend this book to absolutely anyone who wants to read something completely new. It is the first book in the Abhorsen trilogy, but stands on its own very well.

It is probably considered cheating to just read through graphic anthologies and think you really understand something about comics, so to avoid that, I will go ahead and say that although the format intrigues me greatly I am still something of a novice. I did, however, think that this was a pretty nice collection of a good range of work and artists. I had seen some of these in other anthologies, and I'd read Black Hole in its long form, so I don't know if I'd recommend this to those who really, really know their comics. But it's well worth reading if, like me, you've only scratched the surface of graphic fiction and are looking for a great jumping off point. One thing I absolutely loved that I felt was sort of different from other anthologies was the way this book was put together. Like A Mr. Show sketch or a really great mix-tape, the comics are connected to one another either stylistically or loosely by subject and the whole of the contents just flows without ever seeming monotonous. Even where the connection is a stretch I found this absolutely brilliant. Also, the anthology includes some really interesting vintage experimental stuff that I never really knew existed, and that blew my mind in a lot of ways. I really could not list my favorites because they'd be pretty numerous, but in almost 400 pages of work by well over fifty contributors, there's no reason that shouldn't be the case for any reader.

It was very thought-provoking, but not as stellar as everyone made it out to be. I thought it was a lot of reading which didn't have that much of a reward at the end.

My husband hated this book, and I thought it was too mediocre to finish. I wanted to read it because I wanted to read something about pandemics, but the characters were just so unlikeable. My husband felt the characters did too much flashbacks to their pathetic pasts and the story didn't stick enough with the actual plague. I pretty much agree with him.
Tea: I believe I will have another cup Overall a very positive and inspiring book for those who may have lost hope in their lives ever changing. While I don't consider myself a religious person, subscribing to a specific faith, I did appreciate the spirituality in this book. I had to look past the religious references, for myself, to find the deeper meaning behind the Bible passages. I also preferred the real life examples in the book to the passages from the scripture. As some reviewers have stated, if you have read his previous books, or watched him on TV, this book does contain a lot of the same messages and some of the same stories. I wasn't too bothered by this because they're still great messages. After all, a lot of the inspiring stories relay a similar message, how one person overcame a seemingly insurmountable obstacle to achieve a goal or dream. I find for myself, I can never be too inspired and I'm willing to look beyond my own beliefs for inspiration and hope.
