The book has a lot of characters but you can keep up. It has some very interesting happenings for the tenants in One Fifth. There is the old money,new money and no money residents. There are a few twists. Candace is not a great writer. Her books are readable and she likes to write about New York City a lot. I would not buy the book but borrow it from the library as I did. I read an excerpt of this book in Vogue magazine so I decided to read it. It was a page turner.

This was a very simple look at the Sioux Indians. It covers a bit of their history (maybe two sentences on the Battle of the Little Bighorn) and their lifestyle. The pictures were nice, but I would have liked to see more and/or better quality. It was a 'just the facts' sort of book. There were only one or two sentences about Sitting Bull. For our purposes, a brief intro for 3rd graders, it worked well. For the older grades you would need something else. And if you want to talk about Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse you'll need additional sources as well. Most 3rd graders and up could read this on their own. It's a bit dry, but would probably still hold their attention.

I thought this one sucked. After this, I didnt even bother reading the 6th book, or any of the prequels. I read the synopsis on wikipedia and didn't feel cheated at all.

I really loved this, but I'm okay with things that are of questionable substance but have boundless amounts of style. I am even of the opinion that sometimes enough style and beautiful language can generate substance like spontaneous combustion, without the author even fully meaning to. it's real cool and jonathan safran foer liked it: "[she] has an amazingly original way of thinking. ...is often hysterically funny, profoundly strange, and unbearably beautiful. Often all at once."
