This is my favorite book - and all my friends are tired of me talking about it. (Kinda of like Oprah and The Color Purple). Read it over 5 years ago.. and haven't found a historical fiction like it since. The movie doesn't even begin to bring it justice.

I really enjoyed reading this book and got really engrossed in it. Each section is engaging and well-written--all in different genres and voices. But I'm not sure it's amazing all together. There are echoes of each story in the other stories, but they seem a little contrived or at least superficial. That said, it was a really engrossing read.

I can't be objective about this book, so I won't give it a rating, because it was written by a friend and deals with his life. I was imagining my friend in this story, and I don't know if it was that fact or the way it was written that made it so compelling to me, but I loved it.

I need to gather my thoughts on this book. I will just say that when I finish late last night, two things immediately came to me. The first was : OH MY GOSH! AMAZING BOOK! The second was: Wow, this is so disappointing after The Dust of 100 Dogs. It kinda felt like my favourite b-movie director went and made a high-budget mainstream film... a cop out. Review to come.

Probably my least favorite of the series, though still completely addicting, this volume does not lessen the intensity of the series at all. I almost stopped reading after one monumental event (I was that attached to the characters!) but plowed through and never looked back.

This is a wonderful ending to a fabulous series. I especially liked the way the Emperor stepped forward to end the battle. I'm sorry to see this series end. Mr. Flanagan has created an amazing world of people and characters. I actually wish I could meet Halt, Will, Horace, Alyss, and Evanlyn. It will definitely be one I will pass on to my grandchildren. Girls will enjoy this as much as boys do.
