Loved Still Alice...hated this one. One of THE most boring, dragging books I have ever read.

Kind of fun ... but lasted for about 30 minutes.
It's an interesting supplement to seeing the items in the book in person.
i am currently rereading this because i am currently teaching it to high school seniors! fun times; such a classic.

One of Chandler's best. He was the master of mood. His descriptions of the locations and people are just one of a kind. With one sentance you know just what kind of a character you're dealing with and yet you still don't know the ending. Chandler's novels are definitly mysteries but they're not about adding up clues and keeping track of suspects. The real appeal is being introduced to the most screwed up bunch of people you'll ever meet.

One of my favorite books this year. McCann captures the inner lives of a web of New Yorkers whose lives are left with the thumbprint of Philippe Petit's 1974 tightrope walk between the towers of the World Trade Center. McCann's vibrant imagination and rich language weave a tight and engaging narrative. The only flaw was a slight flatness to the sense of time. It was difficult to remember that the novel is set in 1974, although that may also be a positive factor in the timelessness of the stories of New York.

Fascinating true story of the construction and obstacles surrounding the World's Fair in Chicago, mingled wth spooky tales of America's first serial killer. Truly an amazing book; reads like a novel, but everything is based by journals, articles, and testimony. I learned so much from reading this book.
Just ok....nothing great

Three very different stories here, and my reaction to each was different. The first (and only contemporary) story - intriguing but way too short. It ended so abruptly that I was certain we'd return to it at the end of the book, but no. Second story - loved the demon and the "old bitch," but the love story didn't send me. Third story - awesome! I'd read an entire novel about Esme, her mother, and the cold and gorgeous Druj. I listened to this as an audiobook, so did not see the illustrations. Narrator Cassandra Campbell did an adequate job with accents, and her pacing was quite good.
