I'm about 2/3 of the way through this book. It's not holding my interest very much right now. It got good reviews from two people that tend to enjoy the same style as I do, but I'm not into it. I think it needs a love interest because that's what I feel like reading. I'm setting it aside in favor of a book that I've read before and enjoy.

I love Izzy <3 But that wasn't much different from the original part. Merged review: THIS is exactly why I will always love Magnus more than anyone else... nuff said xD Merged review: Why is it, that those short stories from Jace's POV are so much better than the original scenes?

This was really excellent. I am curious to see what the movie is like. Such a simple story and very moving.

Review to follow soon.
Book #19 of 2009 The ending was quite anti-climatic. After building up the whole ghost thing for most of the book, the knight's reapperance as living was never explained at all. And the villian was promptly disposed of with barely any effort. I prefered Miles' "Highland Knight" (Book #9) more... at least there was some explanation at the end. Borrowed from the library.

This book is very, very interesting, and written with Kingsolver's usual flair. She and her family spent a year eating food they grew themselves, or that was otherwise grown within 100 miles of their home. She talks about the challenges - and yet relative simplicity - of their quest, and emphasizes the fact that we use a LOT of oil in transporting food to our grocery stores. Complete with recipes and sidebars by her daughter and husband, respectively, you really should read this!
on an Ann Tyler kick...

Chelsea Bellamy's younger brother has been kidnapped and she doesn't have the funds to pay his ransom. In desperation she turns to her manservant, a former highwayman, for instructions on how to follow in his footsteps. Chelsea then masquerades as "One-Eyed Jack" a notorious highwayman much feared in her area. She robs her neighbors in an effort to raise the funds needed, until one fateful night. Viscount Montrose (Anthony Greenville) is bringing his fiancee to his estate when "One-Eyed Jack" stops his carriage. Anthony fumes as he realizes that he is being robbed by a girl and an elderly man, but has little choice in the matter. Tables are turned though, when he catches that same female trying to steal the silver from his townhouse. Anthony is intrigued by Chelsea and is determined that he should have her- while Chelsea is determined to be a wife or nothing. In order to keep Chelsea close he proposes to help ransom her brother and sparks fly. I quite enjoyed this story. It was nice to see a heroine try an unconventional method of survival, and not have the vapors and let the menfolk do the work. I look forward to reading more stories by Hope Tarr.
