The second book of the trilogy is vastly improved from the first. The characters elicit more empathy, the plot and pace are more compelling, and the character of magic is more fully developed.

Just ok. It's sort of about a book club. Has a good ending. I have it if anyone wants to read.

So I started this the other day, but life got in the way and I only made it to page 5. So at 11am today I sat down to read a few chapters and needless to say I didn't stop until the acknowledgments! (although I read them too and the shout out to Kiresten White was very sweet) I'd say I'm in love with Cricket as much as I am St Claire, but I've decided I'm just in love with Stephane Perkins ( in a non lesbian kind of way) seriously the lady can write not only male characters that you love, but female ones you root for till the very end! I wish Mr Scientific Cricket could build 52 Stephanie robots so we could have a new piece of her work every single week! Thank you Stephanie and Lola for making a bad week better. :)
Jordan Dane’s writing brought me back to home. Her imagery is great. The hot summer sun, the dusty plains, the small antiquated towns. And then she had the people be complete racists. Native Americans are a part of life in Oklahoma. It’s not like Nevada or New Mexico where reservations are these beaten up towns with serious problems. Brenna is a dark and twisty teen. One that I could understand quickly. She’s brave unlike many her age. Her selfless acts bring her friend back to her in more ways than one. Her and her mother’s relationship get repaired with trust and truths. Joe is a needed in so many ways and until he appears fear is rampant for Brenna. There is so much more to say about this book, but it would all be spoilers. So I'll say this, the villians are dynamic, the protag is heartfelt, and the land is home. If you liked Speak, you’d love this book.
Not what I had hoped for. This chick is quite full of herself.

another quick read, a very good debriefing on how to live greener and why. I love this book and was thinking about buying a bunch and passing them out to my friends.
Can I just say how much I love Fadiman? I enjoy reading her in a way that makes me want to call her up after and talk about the essay subjects more thoroughly. She has a great style that is very entertaining and comforting.
This is the Zadie Smith I have enjoyed most - I failed to finish both White Teeth and The Autograph Man. This is about the black American wife of a White British Academic and how she deals with his infidelity. The women are well realised, the men a little thin and wholly unlikeable. I enjoyed it but am unlikely to re-read.

This is a fantastic novel about a self-educated, eccentric woman who lives in NC. The story spans the woman's life as she raises her daughter and becomes a grandmother. This is a charming read and little known. I recommend it to all of my friends.
It was ok it was interesting how she shared her life and how she felt about tattooing, but just because you've read it don't think you can become a tattoo artist which is what alot of idiots have been trying to do lately
