I bought this book while I was stuck in an airport for several hours, thinking it might be a good, quick entertaining read a la Da Vinci Code - as it was advertised. It definitely delivered a fast pace and some interesting plot twists... but the ending seemed mildly anti-climactic. Or perhaps, I just didn't like the conclusion :P

101 stories in 101 words about love, sex, relationships, etc. is a pretty clever idea but with mixed results. not surprisingly, it's a bit repetitive, but a handful of gems at least got a hearty chuckle. maybe if some of these stories stood on their own it would have been much more powerful and would have felt less like a writing exercise. regardless, the stories that really stood out have made me want to read more of what this guy has to offer.

A very light hearted romance novel...Thankfully, nothing dirty, no seduction, no "comprising" situations, no drama and a heroine that actually isn't a wanton slut! Kudos, Georgette Heyer for not yielding to excess hormones that other female writers have gotten used to over time. The characters are realistic! and FINALLY, the one rake in this story; Jack does NOT win and does NOT reform because of love or whatever other fantasy us females entertain in our brains. Freddy Standen is the epitome of a gentle, fun, loving, honest and real man who might actually exist in real life and Kitty is just a girl who happens to be very like-able which is RARE since writers always favor bitches who deserve nothing yet are handed everything. The dialogue is pretty similar to that of Agatha Christie's Tommy and Tuppence books and that is what makes it so entertaining. A bit of a weak plot but as I said earlier; it's a light read.

I first read this play my sophomore year of high school. In my senior year I played Mrs. Webb in the local theatre. It's a somber and touching (all though dated) look at life and death in a small town.

Just finished this one. I am a fairly hardcore Jane fan but enjoy a decent parody and this one was laugh out loud funny at a number of moments. Classic lines I must remember - Elizabeth Bennet to Mr. Bennet, "I am content to be the bride of Death. Not everyone can have Jane's good fortune." Indeeeeed. Could have done without some of the deliberate grossout jokes but most of them were sort of inevitable in this kind of book. The author works quite hard at integrating the zombie/horror film elements into the original novel and has a fine time doing terrible things to likes of Mr. Wickham. There are even bookclub discussion questions at the end, including the one most of us have asked on reading P&P initially: "Does Mrs. Bennet have a single redeeming quality?"

Stevenson, professor emeritus of history at the Uni of St. Andrews, argues that Masonic history ought to be treated like any other kind of history: with objective analysis of the available evidence taken in context of the wider history in which it occurred. When he set out to take on the subject, he discovered to his surprise that the available evidence overwhelmingly points to modern freemasonry having developed not in England, as is generally claimed, but rather in Renaissance and early modern Scotland. Not a Mason himself, Stevenson wrote with the full cooperation of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, and the resulting book, though academic in tone, is worth reading for anyone with an interest in Masonic history, in medieval and early modern Scottish history, or in historiography.

The story is a drag, but this book has the best descriptions of sex that I've ever read. I wanted to strangle Rabbit by the end, but at least his character is consistent. I look forward to reading the other 3 books in the Rabbit series.

Coping with Chloe tackles the effects of bereavement on those left behind through the eyes of a young girl, Anna. It's strange in that the writing is simple and yet the content is tough and challenging. Ultimately though that's probably what most kids want; I remember always wanting to read books with difficult issues even when I was very young. Anna, our protagonist, lost her twin sister in an accident and the story follows the aftermath as she struggles to come to terms with her loss. The book takes an unusual angle as Anna faces each day absorbed by a great sense that her sister, Chloe, is present within her. It is only her new best friend Joe that keeps her on the right path. He helps her and looks after her, not poking fun like some of her other classmates. He too has issues to deal with and this subplot is interwoven carefully with a shocking and troubling conclusion. It's important that authors don't shy away from the tougher topics of life and Warren certainly hasn't. I personally don't think that it is a teen story though and I'm not too sure it should be marketed that way. It seemed to me suitable for a relatively young audience. Nevertheless I would still recommend Coping with Chloe as it's a short yet thought-provoking read. I look forward to Rosalie Warren's next publication.

I have to admit I'm astonished at the number of high reviews for this book. Where to begin? While I found the premise of this book initially interesting, I couldn't help but be disappointed in this book for numerous reasons. The dialogue was painful at times, I'm not sure the author had a good handle on the ages of her characters in respect to dialogue....and character development, come to think of it. Dialogue should be used to reveal things about the characters or to move the plot along, and at times it felt like neither was being accomplished. I don't think the characters were very well developed or fleshed out, as I'm not sure I could tell you much about the characters beyond the superficial. Arizona herself was a bit of a mystery....is she a tough hockey chick or is she this girly-girl? I'm not sure and the author didn't seem to know either. Character development and dialogue aside, the thing that bugged me the most was the "name-dropping" of all these high end items. iPhones, Louboutin, Hummers, Harleys and random designer hand bags abound....I mean some of that specificity is ok. But the author has turned Arizona's life into a materialistic wonderland. Throw in a seemingly perfect family, amazing friends, and a couple hot "ripped" guys who adore her, and you have to wonder just why Arizona misses her old life so much, because for most of the book it seems like she's forgotten all about it while enjoying all the perks of her new life. Other things that drove me a little crazy....a shift from first person to third person narration throughout the story. It got a little confusing at times and maybe could've been helped simply by an "Arizona" or an "Olivia" over their respective chapters.....or just a total shift to third person. Also, a little more focus and a bit more credibility would have been nice in regards to the whole sci-fi aspect of this story. The sci-fi part of this book felt so tagged on, with more focus being on a budding romance, hockey, and running around on motorcycles with new friends. I think this story had real potential. It just really needed a few more re-writes and a little red pen to become a bit more polished and to find it's voice.
