I found it just a little slow going at first, but I quickly warmed to it. Francie Nolan has become one of my favorite literary characters!

This is a very comprehensive book on various forms of visual (read: graphic) arts. Included are basic overviews of drawing, sculpture, painting, free-form, collage, etc. Also includes unique projects and advanced techniques, but not too advanced for kids to try.

This ought to be one of the best vampire books I've ever read. Seriously, it has everything - lovable main characters, action, steamy scenes that are definitely worth reading. One of the things that I liked was Bones's background. Not that him being a former prostitute is a good thing, but he did learn a lot from that job of his (Cat knows first-hand now). However, him telling his story to Cat just showed how strong he was and that he'll never break. He was a real man, because he told Cat how he felt about her in her face. And although he's a vampire, he still had good inside him (take Tara's situation). He doesn't kill innocent people to feed. His attitude is the next best thing about him. He was funny, but he knew when to be serious. I liked Cat very much, because who doesn't like a badass heroine? And the thing that made her so amazing was the fact that she wasn't some kind of a She-male, but instead she knew when to be scared and when there was no need for fear. Another thing I liked about her was that she wasn't stupid enough to trust a vampire (Bones) right away, unlike some stupid heroines (take Bella Swan for example). At the end of the book, she sacrificed ten years of her life just to secure Bones's safety because she really loved him. She wasn't selfish enough to make her mother, who hates vampires with passion, to run away with a vampire just so she can be the one who gets the happy ending. The character that I didn't like was Cat's mother. I've read the next five books and I kind of start to like her in the last two, but in this one she was just plainly a bitch. I understood the fact that she is very scared of vampires because of what Cat's father did to her, but unlike her daughter, who was selfless and brave, she acted like a spoiled brat. How can she sacrifice her daughter's happiness, even if it involves one of your worst nightmares, just so you can be satisfied? Before I read the next books and got to like her a bit, I actually thought that Bones should have killed her right away. (Again, he could have, but he knew it would hurt Cat.) To sum it up, that book was more than great and interesting as hell. I was pretty much ecstatic when I found out that there are going to be nine books in the series instead of seven. I won't say that I hope that Jeaniene Frost will keep up with the good work, because I'm pretty sure that she will. Her books are amazing, her writing is also amazing and her storylines are interesting. She has potential to write and that's the truth.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, and after reading this one I definitely won't! I found the characters to be so flat and silly, with no complexity at all, that they were more like "charactures." I am 50 something and I would hope that those of us in this age group have more depth and brains than the author has given these women. I wouldn't be able to stand a group of women like this!

** spoiler alert ** I think I'm going to give up on translations, well, at least ones that stem from Japan. Here is a story of incest, rape, and prostitution, which, I suppose, is meant to shock or enthrall you, but the writing (actually, I should say translation) is so horrid that, while I'm supposed to be disgusted/empathetic/sympathetic/insert-random-emotion here, I'm just distracted by the wording. While I normally blame the author for this, I can't help to think maybe Steven Clark shouldn't be doing translations or anything with literature, ever. Because I don't read Japanese, I'll never know the point to this book as I learned nothing, as I don't feel sorry for the main character, as I don't even know what happened. When you're introduced to her soon-to-be rapist, you're wondering why in hell you're being introduced to him. Again, Western literature has tainted me and I probably expect things to happen in such a way, but still, I didn't see much of a purpose of the whole chapter. I'm still puzzled trying to see why a book like this (again, perhaps just the translation) - where a emotionally closed off girl has sex with her mentally handicapped brother, becomes a prostitute while continuing to have sex with her mentally handicapped brother, discovers she's the product of artificial insemination, searches out her biological father, only to have sex with him - well, you see my point - even exists. Perhaps it seemed like a good idea where shock media sells, but when a translation is so horrible, you have to ponder that question in what a publishing house was thinking when they said, "It seems like a good idea." Did they even read it before pushing it out there? I should add this is the first time I completed reading the book. I'd tried in the past several times, but each time opted that shoving a pencil through my eye would have been a better deal. However, I did spend money on it, so I felt like I had to read it. This was Snakes and Earrings all over again.

I think I might have been out of my league on this one. It felt like things didn't tie together or fully develop. Didn't love the idea that children were hurt and unhappy. I like a more upbeat joyful read. This one wasn't for me.
8th grade! Woohoo!
Not quite typical of the Bradbury writings, but extremely enjoyable nonetheless.
One Spanish/English dictionary is pretty much the same as another to me, but a teacher I took a Spanish reading class from was particularly fond of Larousse so I thought I'd pass the recommendation on.
