I haven't started this yet. I didn't know there was like 3 more... so if it is good I will read all of them!

I don't think Sookie and I are going to be best buddies in so far as reading preferences go. It had moments -- some good, more not so good. I know there are legions of fans. I know. I know. I'm just not at all sure I will be joining them as this left me -- meh -- rather unfazed and not much impressed. I have more of them to read. Haven't decided I'll be doing so however. they are there -- in a pinch I might grab one and read just to have a book but Im not expecting any fireworks, you know what I mean?

I loved this book. It had every element of my favorite books: characters that are endearing and unforgettable, a bit of history (including a Holocaust survivor!), and a message of faith and inspiration. I loved the different ways each character dealt with pain and suffering and how each taught the others in their experiences and differences. The relationships in the book are unforgettable - especially that of Nova, the child narrator and Josef Karski, the Holocaust survivor. Two favorite quotes: "I decided that faith must be the strongest thing in the world, because an ounce of it can change the course of an entire life.” Nova Tierney "And if I curse God, Mrs. Tierney? What then? If I turn away from him, what do I turn toward? …No. Better to keep one’s face toward heaven, even if you are angry with God, than to turn away and find nothing at all.” Josef Karski

Good, not great. It seemed like the author thought she was being wittier than she really was, with everything written in letters. The problem with that was each person needs to have their own distinct voice then, but each person sounded the same, 'wrote' the same, etc. The story was cute enough and easy enough to read, so I flew through it, which made it generally enjoyable. Since I usually rate a book based on how much I could enjoy it recreationally, I give it four stars. I didn't love it enough to recommend it to others, though.

I love this series. You'll fall in love with the Hirachi race. :)

Liked the voice of the main character, she made me laugh. Crazy lifestyle of the over motivated, highly driven, professional couple with three young children. Her determination to get back to normal is amazing, considering the severity of her injury from a car accident.
Jyg gave me this book for X-mas in 2006. While I attempted to read it then, school quickly go in the way so I never got around to finish the book. However, tonight, I finished completed the novel. I don't want to give away too much about the book, because each summary that I can come up with will give away all the little surprises. However, I will say that the book takes place during a very dark version of contemporary England and deals heavily with love, morals, ethics, beliefs, prejudice and science. There is never a single moment in the book that lags or fails to keep you interested. Perhaps, one day, I will write more about it, but, like I said, I don't want to give away too much. I suppose if you want to know more about my thoughts on the book (and be warned this post contains spoilers) you can go to my blog page and read it.

And I wanted to read this a second because? The unending detail of posturing, strutting, and fighting? More likely I just enjoy pain.

Brutal and uncompromising. To say that I liked it would be foolish, but I cannot deny its potency.
