I picked this book up while traveling through Central America. It was on the book exchange shelf of a hostel. What luck! It is a fantastic read, I loved it.

Powerful and horrible, yet beautiful as well. This had some details of the Holocaust that I had never heard before. I was anxious for the mystery of Gemma's past to be solved, and it seemed like I had to wait a long time in the book for it to happen. When it did, it was worth the wait and much more than I had imagined. Yolen's use of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale to tell a story of the Holocaust was masterfully done. I thought this quote from the book was particularly appropriate and can be applied to many fairy tales: "It ends happily, even though it's awfully sad along the way." Note: Some adult themes are dealt with in this story, including some of the horrible violence done in concentration camps and extermination camps during the Holocaust.

4 1/2 would be more like it. I really liked this book, but I found myself split between the guys, I like both main guys. There was a time I wanted Jacianda to drop Will and love Cassian. Then I liked Will too, so I wanted Cassian to fall for Tamra, so he's not hurt and I am liking Tamra. Also, I like Tamra in this one. She is discovering who she is and getting a back bone when it comes to Cassian. In the end I think he will fall in love with that. At least it would make me happy to see them both happy. I like that she wrote this book and am anxious to see how the story continues. I didn't really like Jacinda in the first book all that much. I didn't hate her, just didn't really care for the way she was. I liked who she became in this book more and I sense more growth coming. I also had a better understanding of who Cassian is, and couldn't help but like him. Will was more intense and less fun in this book, but I guess I can understand why. I do like the main guys to have a little sense of humor, but the nature of how this story unfolds, there really wasn't any room for it. What can I say, I will be happy to read the next book.
