Lots of fun to match food and literature. My book group does this for each book we read -- the refreshments are based on the book. You must have refreshments for book group, might as well learn a little more about the book through good eating!

One of my favorite Irving books. This one really develops characters that are close to your heart as they grow up and fall from innocence. The stary is sad and loving throughout the book. Many difficult relationships between the characters that make this fantastic story relatable to real life.s

First Thoughts: Ich liebe die Shifters/Faythe Sanders-Reihe. *sigh*

This book has some great themes that are necessary to think about such as what occurs when people allow suspicion and distrust of others to rule their lives. I had to read this for class and I am not sure I would have picked it up on my own.

I had to read this book for my literary journalism class in college. I revisit it every year. The stories are tremendous. I aspire to be the kind of writer Talese is.

This is a rather rare and one-of-a-kind study. The analysis of Takahashi's dada poetics in light of Buddhism is exhilarating. The angle on Tzara is penetrating.

Humerous or disturbing - how many of the roadside markers and historic landmarks are full of mistakes in the name of boosterism.
I'm really glad I picked this book up - I wouldn't have done so not too long ago. As a child I used to read a lot of fantasy novels, and then I stopped. Whether this was because of a general perception that the genre wasn't for adults, or due to a feeling of my own that that was so, I couldn't say. The feeling's persisted however and I've generally avoided fantasy books for the last 17-18 years believing them to be formulaic and poorly written. There are some exceptions to that - I re-read J.R.R. Tolkien in that time and, after the BBC Big Read, I read Night Watch by Terry Pratchett. I really enjoyed that book and read it again earlier this month. As I was finishing it, I came across a review of something else online, which spoke of how Steven Erikson and George R.R. Martin had transformed fantasy writing in the last decade, so I thought I'd give it a try. This is the first book in a ten book series and it does feel like that at times, but what shines through is the quality of writing. It's not as challenging a read as some have suggested, but neither does it molly-coddle you. In short it's a fantasy book that's been written with adult readers in mind. Many genres suffer from poor writing - "chick-lit", thrillers and sci-fi among them, so why fantasy should have languished so long is a bit of a mystery to me. Erikson has a degree in anthropology and archaeology and the world is well developed and thought out with different cultures as well as races (and not an ork, a goblin, an elf or a dwarf in sight!), gods, demi-gods, a complex magic system and (only right at the end) dragons. I'd recommend this for anyone with imagination who also enjoys more complex writing.
The final book to the fever series, Shadowfever has MacKayla Lane questioning who she is and even what she is in an adventure that will take you far into the depths of Faery and even into the corrupted Unseelie ridden world that we call our home. MacKayla finds out new secrets about Barrons and finds out that you cannot trust the word of any one aroud you. This novel was truly breathtaking and suspenseful once i started reading it i couldnt't even think of putting it down. With great characters, hot and intense sexual moments and an amazing plot and story line ""Karen Marie Moning truly take he readers deep inside her books with no hope of escaping. I reccomend this book to anyone wekll more of girl audience and definitely over 18 rated but it will truly have you wanting more and more with every page that you read.
