This book shows how polticians fram language and articulates clearly many ways we a citizens can become manipulated by this and how to fight against it. I think this is a must read for the politically concious person.

** spoiler alert ** This is definitely my favorite Shadowlands book. You will laugh out loud at some of it. Gabrielle is an undercover for the FBI at Shadowlands, trying to stop a man who is kidnapping rebellious subs to sell them as sex slaves. Master Z is the only one who knows she's working under cover, and he forces Marcus to take her on as a trainee sub. He has to keep her for the month. There's no kicking her out. Only, she really is submissive, and she starts to fall for Marcus, and it's truly difficult for her to be bratty when all she wants to do is submit to him. She's not actually an FBI agent, though. She usually works as a victim specialist, and meets a lot of teenagers. I love it when she writes a list of the smart ass things the kids say, and starts saying them to Marcus and the other doms. I was laughing out loud at some of those scenes!
** spoiler alert ** Read it years ago in college. Wasn't very impressed then. However, reading it now and knowing the literary context, I can appreciate how ground-breaking it was. Previously, without knowing context, I just saw it as another 'superhero angst' book without realizing it was THE superhero angst book that the others owed a debt to. I have a weakness for archetypes. After reading it again before seeing the movie, it was fun to go back through and see all of the times Rorschach shows up in panels 'in disguise', like at the funeral. (You can even see him checking his 'mailbox' in the background of one scene.) I still think it was too long and the pirate story unnecessary, BUT the pirate sections are where Rorschach gets the most background scene-time, so I think it's thrown in there as a red-herring to distract you from the background action. (Yes, I know that's a spoiler, but only a minor one for mid-book, so :P) There are also other subtle things like the happy face blood spatter also shows up on Comedian's first (yellow) costume during the rape scene about where the button is in the later costume, as well as splattering on the same spot on the button in Vietnam when he gets his scar. Saw the movie today and one image they had in the movie that SHOULD have been in the book was at the end at [someone's:] death, his blood splatter left a ... pattern in the snow. It would have been a very iconic image in the comic, but it's not there.

I absolutely adore Johnnie and Tyler, they are two wonderful characters, and I'd like very much to read more about them. Johnnie is a famous rockstar who enjoy his life: he likes women and men as well, only pleasure. When he meets Tyler, the owner of the hotel who Jonnie is hosted, he wants him. But Tyler is not gay, even if, when he looks at Johnnie, his body is very interested; and he runs away. But Johnnie doesn't accept a no like answer and eventually he has Tyler in his bed. But he can take him here? In this book Jet follows the yaoi rules with two young characters, one stronger than the other, one always on top of the other. Johnnie is a few youger than Tyler, but it is obviously that he is the alpha male in this couple. And guys, I always like man with long hair, and here Johnnie has beautiful long waist hair! http://www.amazon.com/dp/1596325127/?...

innovative story by an Indian writer.. brings out a great sense of North India.. woven together well...if you like a book that confuses you and you like that confusion this is what you need
Read this for my theological ethics class - it's in the "to reread" list because I think it really merits going back through before I give it a rating. However, I just want to say that this is may be the most beautiful cover out of all those on the books I own. Shelling out the cash for the hardcover was worth it just to be able to stare at the hardcover all the time.
