LOVED IT! Sort of confusing at the beginning but easy to get into. I've read it twice.

Could freak you out about homebirths. I was amaized that this book was written by a man. It seemed like it had to be written by a women but "Chris" is male.
** spoiler alert ** I learned from this book that there's someone out there for us. And that we should not think that we are not beautiful and that we are not worth loving after a broken relationship or after losing someone special in our life. We will find love and love will find us no matter what happened in our life. This is a book of hope, love, courage and moving on. We move on for the people who love us. Moving on means accepting what happened. So for those who lost someone special in their life, read this book.

I won a copy of this book through the Goodreads First Reads program. I loved these stories. They were a fascinating way of looking at issues of race in today's world. The stories themselves were very well written and each one made me stop and think. There were so many great stories, but I think Cherries in Winter was my favorite. Another great book from Danzy Senna.

http://www.bookcrossing.com/journal/6... I have enjoyed reading the novels written by Erica James since her first one ‘A Breath of Fresh Air’ was published in 1996. With the exception of a couple that I have not got hold of yet I have now read all her novels. I regard her work as a thoroughly good read where you can immerse yourself in the story, not great literature but so much better than some of the novels regarded as ‘chick lit’or ‘romantic womens fiction’. Set partially in Venice with my love of Italy I very quickly found myself immersed in the surroundings and the story. The novel starts in Venice as the scene is set for the protagonist Lydia, having lived in Italy for twenty-eight years, sees a face in a crowded street that takes her back to her childhood and a dark secret she has kept to herself all these years. The central part of the novel is concerned with Lydia telling the story of her past life to her brother in law. We learn of her difficult childhood and how the consequences of her actions have led her to where she is today. The last section of the novel is in the present back in Venice where her past meets her present and she gets a second chance with the man she has loved all these years. There are a few unexpected twists to the tale that will keep you guessing until the end, romance, mystery, tears and laughter you will find them all within the pages of another novel from an imaginative story teller.
The original book in this series, which I greatly enjoyed when I read it as a teenager. Jean Auel's look at early man facinated me.

I read this book at one sitting, which was, I think, a mistake. It would have been much better picking it up and reading just one essay at a time, saving the rest for another day. This book is a series of well-written memoir essays that provide a look into David Sedaris' family and inner life. If these essays are to be believed, Sedaris is an intelligent, extremely neurotic person with unique insights into the world around him and his place in it. A short time spent in his world is fascinating. After a long time, the entertaining quirks become irritating. Take this book a little at a time.
