I don't like this one nearly as well as the other Seuss Toddler board books we've collected. Perhaps it is the limited subject: I mean, just how interesting can a book about feet be? I am also not too fond of the artwork. Thankfully, my toddler isn't a huge fan either, so we only end up reading it a few times a week.

This is my favorite of the Otherland volumes so far. There's less hesitance in the story telling, and now that all the characters have been (finally) introduced and set in motion, this volume moves forward at a much better pace than the last two. Also, there was an added sense of connection to this piece of the story for me because of so many references I recognize from Homer's classics.
This is obviously a debut book. I wasn't that engrossed by it, I didn't enjoy it all that much and it wasn't that easy to follow. The things that frustrated me most about the book were that at the beginning certainly, the chapters were far to short. It felt as if they were slow to start and only built up a momentum with a couple of lines left, and then the chapter was over and you had to start the whole process again meaning you couldn't get a good flow together. Whether it was just the pre-production copy I had or not, but there were quite a lot of glaring grammatical errors within the first few pages, and many sentence's made no sense what so ever. I felt the book had a pretty good middle, but the last 3rd of the book was truly awful. It was difficult to follow, made almost no sense what-so-ever and felt like it was there just so it could be shelved under a 'fantasy' header in a shop. Was it a bad book? No. Was it a good book? No. Did I enjoy it? Parts of it yes, I did, parts of it I just wanted to skip so I could reach the end sooner. Will I read the second book? Maybe. Would I recommend it to a customer in my shop? No. This was a polar opposite of the last book I read 'Temeraire' Which I would recommend to anyone and everyone. This, I would only recommend to people if they had read literally everything else in my 'Fantasy' section. Maybe the second book will be better. Hopefully it is. But I doubt I would go out of my way to buy it, I would probably only read it if I can get my hands of a proof copy from the publishers.
One of only two translations I would ever recommend. Actually, I would actively recommend BOTH - Heany does a very literal, modern rendition of the Old English, while Howard Chickering captures the complex, archaic poetry of the kennings. Anyone who loves Beowulf but sadly lacks the time to tackle to original should read both.
A great murder mystery thriller set against Washington intrigue and the drama of the judicial nomination process. A lot of fun!

Hard to say exactly why but I found this thoroughly engrossing and am glad the second book just came out so I can read it too.

Not quite what I expected but a good listen anyway. The narrator Susan McInerney did a good job and made the story very touching and entertaining to listen to. Vicki Myron seems like a truly inspiring person and I enjoyed hearing about her own story weaved in and out of Dewey's.
This was very good as a hands on book. I used it for teaching. Several of the students said they liked it because it was more hands on. I felt that it was a bit light on the theory. But it probably gets paired very well with books that are deeper in the how and why because Hernandez does a good job of explaining concepts in english. Also, there were some sections (like diagramming) that I felt that Hernandez was much better then alternatives, because instead of using the full set of UML, he uses a subset that makes sense for what he needs. And this attitude is applied to other topics as well.
should have known from the title....

the book was interesting but the ending ruined it for me
