It took me awhile to 'figure this book out'. I think that I just didn't have the focus time that I needed. I would get confused with the names and who was writing each chapter. I loved how it intertwined the past and present with characters that would come together. It was a unique story line and I enjoyed that aspect as well as it being a 'clean' story

There is something about Cormac McCarthy's prose...there is something about his prose unnameable, a visceral beauty, the poetry of black blood spilling onto red dirt, the grotesque. It's one of those books that I would gush about when I used to get drunk. McCarthy has captured the brutality of the true old west.

Really, really great in a teen angsty way. Smart, sarcastic, and poignant. Anderson sure is fond of downer endings, though. Don't read too many of his books in a row or you'll become woefully depressed. But you won't be able to put the book down, even if you know depression is lurking for you at the last page. Highly recommended!
three times I tried & three times I failed to get through this book. Sorry Mom!

Amazing story but difficult to read at times because it's so frustrating/depressing...

Re-reading for book club. Initially read when I was about 18, enjoying much more this time round.
A personal favorite. The first third of the book is slow, but it takes off from there. I've given a copy to at least a dozen people.
