I listened to the audio version of this book and that could account for it only being three stars. At times I found it to be a little slow going but overall I did enjoy this book. The concept was interesting and I think the title will attract readers. I wasn't aware that families had lived on Alcatraz and I think young readers will find that very interesting. Also, I enjoyed the character of Moose Flanagan and enjoyed learning about him and his relationships about others on the island including his sister. Lastly, I would recommend this book also to those looking for books with a special needs child in them.

I read this book in High School. I need to find a copy and read it again to refresh my memory.

Basically a chunk of the Jedi Academy trilogy told through Corran's eyes. Then he goes on a big adventure to save Mirax. Not a fantastic book (especially since a lot of it was lifted right from the other books) but not a bad one either. I've always liked Corran (Kieran) and it was fun to see from his perspective for a little while.

I like the repetition and rhyming couplets on these books (though rhyming "today" with "hooray" at the end is a stinker of an ending). I think this would be good for a really young storytime.

THIS REVIEW KINDA HAS SPOILERS!!!!!! So AWESOME!!!! Okay so maybe I spent most of the book hoping that Saf would give Po a good reason for Po to punch him in the face, but oh well. And Leck "little girls are even more perfect when they bleed." that is so creepy.
ARC Review: Persia left her drug-addicted parents to join a traveling theater troupe. There is something special about this theater troupe though. They use faerie magic! Soon troubles from the past begin to resurface, and everyone Persia cares about could be in jeopardy. They decide to hide in Faerie, but quickly discover they can’t run from their problems. I have mixed feelings about this one. I liked the idea of a traveling theater troupe that used Faerie magic to animate puppets, but the characters didn’t leave a lasting impression on me. I know I can’t end every book feeling like I have a new BFF, but with this one they all felt like strangers. This should not be the case after spending 300+ pages together. The cast was quite large, but Persia is the main focus. We see things through her eyes. The characters had the potential to be fantastic, but they just weren’t developed enough for my liking. The world also wasn’t explained well enough to really pull me in. Really a great concept, but with the lack of development in the characters and world, it just didn’t win me over. The ending seemed open for a sequel. I’d definitely pick up the next book and give the author, Persia, and her friends a second chance if this does turn out to be a series. Cover thoughts: Gorgeous and a perfect fit for the story it accompanies. It does an excellent job of making me think faeries and magic are a big part of the book.
If you read this you are going have the constant urge to read bits of it aloud to someone. If that someone is male: wait. Read it to your girlfriends and they'll get it. Be careful not to snort your drink while reading and laughing.
One of my absolute favorite books. Maybe it's because we read both of them in the same year of high school, but I can't help comparing this to Catch-22. Both address the absurdity and monstrosity of war, but this does it in about 1/4 of the space, manages to stay very funny throughout, and is inventively structured. I read this book every year or so, just to remind myself of what it says. It's that good.
My daughter and I enjoyed this book because we like the slang and choice of words. I was able to really get into character while reading it to her. She asked me why did some of the words sound funny? I told her that's the difference between how it is now and how it was when granny was a little girl and plus we loved that sneaky fox.

Wasn't fond of the first story--loved the others.
