akbayanbak5dc9
Akbayan Bakitzhanova akbayanbak5dc9 — What I really wish is that Anna Karenina were published in 2 or 3 volumes, because that would make it physically easier to handle and carry around, and I could more conveniently reread it again and again. Re-reading, and this time I'm going to capture some of my favorite lines... "[Stepan Arkadyich, or Stiva:] had never thought the question over clearly, but vaguely imagined that his wife had long suspected him of being unfaithful to her and was looking the other way. It even seemed to him that she, a worn-out, aged, no longer beautiful woman, not remarkable for anything, simple, merely a kind mother of a family, ought in all fairness to be indulgent. It turned out to be quite the opposite." (I, 2) Stiva is professionally successful for several reasons, my favorite is: "third - most important - a perfect indifference to the business he was occupied with, owing to which he never got carried away and never made mistakes." (I, 5) Stiva takes Levin, his friend from the country, to dine at a Moscow restaurant. He's planned an elaborate Anglo-French menu, but then the waiter tells him they have oysters. "In that case, shouldn't we begin with oysters, and then change the whole plan? Eh?" [Levin:] "It makes no difference to me. I like shchi and kasha best, but they won't have that here." The waiter suggests *Kasha a la Russe*, but Levin declines. (I, 10) "Between Countess Nordston and Levin there had been established those relations, not infrequent in society, in which two persons, while ostensibly remaining on friendly terms, are contemptuous of each other to such a degree that they cannot even treat each other seriously and cannot even insult one another." (I, 14) "[Vronsky:] did not know that his behavior toward Kitty had a specific name, that it was the luring of a young lady without the intention of marriage, and that this luring was one of the bad actions common among brilliant young men such as himself. It seemed to him that he was the first to discover this pleasure, and he enjoyed his discovery." (I, 16).

Cássia Marina paulaeduar3b52 — ** spoiler alert ** I really enjoyed this book. It had great insight and I loved the story...it could happen! Very interesting. I am updating my 'edit' after watching the movie... I still enjoyed the book better than the movie, and like friends who have read the book first or watch the movie first, you usually like whichever you did first, better. That holds true for me, but for different reasons. I like the book better because I liked the story better. I liked how the author drew from experiences the main character had throughout his entire life, and mixed it all up. I also liked that the two main characters remained friends. I thought that was one of the key parts of the story that the author was trying to portray - the friendship of these two, and how all of these 'street kids' really stuck together. Lastly, pertaining to the girl, she exhonerated him in the end. She proved that he was telling the truth on the show and freed him of the guilt he thought he had over killing her father in an attempt to save her. She redeemed him. The movie did not portray any of this, which, in my opinion, were the key notes the author was telling. Still, loved the book! Bought and will re-read!
