Cansu Sakarya cansusakar0a7f — Most addicting one in the series, I could barely put it down and when I was done I was begging for more. Absolutely one of the most amazing series I have ever read. Such an amazing semi-conclusion. Chloe and the gang are finally safe, or so they think. After escaping the near kidnapping they have found themselves with Andrew, Simon and Derek's friend. With his help they get introduced to some people that are able to help them. Tori and Simon both get lessons from other sorcerers and witches. Derek is still Derek. And Chloe? Well Chloe is beginning to have some problems with her mentor. After a tragic accident during a training session at the cemetery Chloe and her friends are now viewed as unnatural freaks. However, despite the drama Chloe seems to get to have some fun on her date with Simon. Too bad it doesn't go as planned when Chloe begins to realize there may be someone else. Struggling with her torn feelings for the brothers she also begins seeing more and more ghosts around the house, telling her dark and dangerous secrets surrounding the Edison Group. Safety never stays for long and soon Chloe and her friends begin to realize they've been betrayed and end up back in the Edison Groups clutches. With the help from Liz, a demon, and the dead, will Chloe and her friends ever be safe again? Or will they be constantly on the run until the Edison Group is finally brought down? Overall? Complete awesomesauce this book was. I was so happy and sad when I finally got to the last pages of this book. The guy I wanted to win for Chloe...totally did and I am not telling so you all will just have to read it. The writing, plot and characters were still completely perfect and the Edison Group just became more and more evil with each and every page. I seriously hope you all pick up this amazing trilogy!!!

Joey Tan joeyrants — Surprisingly readable, considering how dry and academic it could have been. Instead, it's both intelligent and accessible, and my only real complaint is that since it was published over a decade ago it's missing a lot of important modern horror films. Otherwise, highly recommended.

buruart
Olga Belskaya buruart — The plot got quite a bit thicker in this volume, and I'm glad. I appreciate the way Mark's relationships with mom and friends are playing out (surprisingly realistic considering), but they're not really substantial enough to carry the plot. It's clear that Mark telling his human girlfriend about his secret identity is going to backfire big time, probably soon. Sort of felt a bit overwhelmed by all the characters introduced in this volume, and I'm having a bit of trouble keeping track of all of them, but I think I've got a handle on it now. Really excited by the introduction of Angstrom Levy (though I hate that they're referring to alternate universes as other dimensions, ugh). However, I feel like it took the Levy character a ridiculous amount of time to complete his experiment/origin story and just GET ON with things. I hope Kirkman does something substantial with Levy in subsequent volumes. The Titan/Machine Head side plot was promising, but was too short and felt like it didn't do much except prove that Invincible, more often than not, just...isn't. For an invincible dude, he's beat up and bested a ridiculous amount. That kind of pisses me off, although maybe it's supposed to be a joke in a way. Also, the Tether Tyrant is the weirdest? dumbest? villain I've seen so far. Found D.A. Sinclair an intriguing villain, but...will we see him again? He showed up and then disappeared almost instantly. Glad to see more of Allen the Alien. Felt bad when he got torn apart by Viltrumites (in a scene that was maybe a bit overly graphic and yet, again, THE BLOOD LOOKS LIKE KETCHUP), glad he didn't actually die. Curious to see who the mole in the head council of the coalition is (my guess is it's Thaedus the sweet grandfatherly guy who's warning against the mole). Soooo....clearly I am getting into this comic quite a bit! Much prefer to read collected volumes; I think I would have a hard time following this stuff if I had to read each issue individually as it was published.

heart2draw
Nathalie Tveter heart2draw — *Note: There are some tiny spoilers below.* This was my first Libba Bray novel, and I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. The premise is straightforward: a plane full of beauty queens crashes on a remote island. Throughout the book, we watch them surprise themselves at their capability, learn to have some confidence in their young womanhood, and of course, save the day. I think, by far, my favorite character is the oh-so-Texan Taylor Rene Krystal Hawkins. She starts off the book as the leader (duh) of the beauty queens. How could you not love the girl who starts off rallying her fellow pageant girls after a horrific plane crash by saying, "Okay, Miss Teen Dreamers, I know we're all real flustered and everything. But we're alive. And I think before anything else we need to pray to the one we love...I'm talkin' about my own personal copilot, Jesus Christ" (p.7). It's lines that like that had me busting out laughing often throughout the book. Taylor goes a little bat shit crazy, which lost me a bit, but she was so fascinating in all her gun-toting, survivor glory. Here's my personal favorite line: After describing a hilarious product called "Breast in Show" (use your imagination there), Bray writes, "Breast in Show. Because 'You're perfect just the way you are' is what your guidance counselor says. And she's an alcoholic" (p. 212). Priceless. The book is pretty sexy (hello boat full of hot pirates), which is fine by me, but I could see some overly-conservative parents having a problem with it, so my fellow librarians be aware. I thought the sex was handled well and was honest and real. Kudos to Bray there. That said, this is definitely a high school book. The book is dotted with footnotes explaining culturally significant products and people pertinent to the world in which the beauty queens live. Sometimes, I thought they were hilarious, sometimes they annoyed me. It's all so satirical (which is great), but oftentimes a little heavy-handed. Perhaps the most annoying part, to me, was MoMo B. ChaCha. We're supposed to laugh at the absurdity of his character (and his likeness to a foreign leader we know), but he just annoyed me. Ladybird Hope was much more fitting and could have been the villain all by her lonesome. Overall, I really enjoyed this one. I liked that Bray was trying to say, "Hey, girls, it's ok to be girls and have feelings and be tough and feel sexy and not want to apologize for any of it." It just felt too obvious sometimes. The beauty queens were hilarious, as was much of the dialogue and many of the footnotes. It's nice to have some well-written girl power lit to hand to my teen patrons. Rock on, Libba Bray.
