Ryan Mandseth _uurion — To give a comment about Bachelard, one must surpass his thinking, and that I can't do. When I first read this book, I felt like a kid who was being taught the wonder of beings. Bachelard is my fantasy guru, because he will take and show you that everything you perceive and thought as it is [traditionally:], is subject to a change. In one instance he says "a root is always a discovery" [p.84:]. I agree with that, the primary reason of the establishment of religious fundamentalist is a belief that the root is already "finished", all interpretations of holy writ must be built upon it, a slight deviation will be called heresy. A discovery doesn't mean refutation but extension and enrichment of the former. You can not read Bachelard and don't come up with new words and phrase you coin yourself, tha's the magic of his imaginary reasoning. This book is a collection of his scattered writings. Breath-taking!

Tatiana Matsoulevitch tats_moi — This book is a joy to read and one that is a classic witty tale written by John Burningham. The author, John Burningham, has written in such an imaginative way with sketches and illustrations throughout the book which makes the story more interesting to read. It is a tale full of imagination, fantasy and a great adventure to go with it! Has anyone wondered where cats go at night? Well, Marie Elaine did. One night, little Marie Elaine came downstairs for a cold drink of water. Upon arrival, she is taken aback by what she saw. She saw her cat Malcolm all dressed up in fancy clothes and a hat. Marie Elaine questioned Malcolm regarding where he is going. Malcolm replied that he can’t tell her where he is going because it’s a secret! Marie Elaine persuaded the cat Malcolm to come with him to this mysterious secret place. She too then had to change her clothes into a fancy dress, and off they went. Whilst going to this secret place, they were met by a boy called Norman Kowalski who threatens to tell on them if they don’t take him with them to where they are going. They then had to get past wild, barking dogs until finally they reached the amazing secret world of the cats party. Just before dawn, they make their way back to the house. Marie Elaine’s mother pronounced ‘’you look as if you were out all night with the cat’’. If only she knew what Marie Elaine got up to last night!! The great adventures of Marie Elaine and Malcolm the cat in the dark hours of the night make this story very exciting and endearing. It is a book which is a must read for children in primary schools and one where they will certainly be entertained by! It makes for a nice little bedtime story. Recommended reading for children from key stage 1 onwards.

nanmade
Nancy Smith nanmade — This was my first forray into the huge world of Batman. I'm still not entirely sure whether it was the ideal start, but one has to start somewhere; and after having read "The Dark Knight Returns" I'm really glad I chose this one to start with. And Batman or no Batman, this is an absolutely fantastic piece of art. First of all, it was good to start with something familiar - I've loved Dave McKean's work ever since I read "Sandman", obviously. And I don't think I've ever seen a comic where the art fit so well to the story like with this one. On April 1, Arkham Asylum is taken over by its inhabitants, and according to the Joker's demands, Batman has to go in there, alone, in order to save the hostages. The Joker wants to show him that this, rather than the "sane" world, is where Batman belongs. At the same time, we also learn about the history of the Asylum, and the result is a wonderfully twisted tale of the past and the present. I was genuinely creeped out by the story and the art and the lettering (the Joker especially comes to mind), and the atmosphere was really - well, creepy and uncanny. I love it when that happens, since I don't tend to scare that easily. It really pulled me in, and it truly felt like I was in Arkham Asylum with Batman and his adversaries. In this edition, there is also the script of the comic plus some notes by Grant Morrison. I found them rather helpful and really really interesting (I always love to read how comics come into existance - I still am such a novice to this world and it's fascinating to peek behind the curtain). I was rather confused by most of the villains, since I pretty much only knew the Joker and Two-Face, but even though I suspect a lot of things went over my head, it was still a really enjoyable read. And more than that. It became an instant favourite, and I cannot recommend it enough.

lamiscible
Lamiscible Fashion lamiscible — After reading some of James Clemens later stuff (Godslayer), I decided to pick up some of his earlier works. Stay away from this book if you were impressed with the Godslayer series and haven't read his earlier stuff. The story seems alright enough at first, but within the first few chapters, it falls flat. I couldn't even get to the end of the first book... glad I didn't buy the series.
