Taylor Berghoff rolyato — This is a truly inspirational book. It is a rough chronology of the hasidic movement in Judaism built around vignettes of the lives and tales of the hasidic masters. The one disappointment is that is mentions several times in the context of other masters but never profiles Schneur Zalman of Liadi, the founder of Chabad. The tales of Nahman of Bratslav were covered extensively, as were the lives of several compelling figures such as Menachem Mendel of Vitebsk and Levi-Yitzhak of Berditchev.

Mike Peck _ntipodesnzl — From the Rosetta Stone to the fall of the Roman Empire, from the rise of English power under Elizabeth the Great to the recent collapse of the Japanese economy, this book explores how taxes have affected them all. We all know the significance of the Rosetta Stone; how it allowed scholars to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics because of the Greek right next to it. But what they don't tell you is what is so important as to be written in three languages- of the oppression of taxation under the Ptolemy's. And it also shows how Cortez defeated Montezuma was through inciting a tax revolt among the peasants. England rose to power under Elizabeth the Great because of her low tax policies; while Spain's star was falling because of the onerous tax and religious policies of her brother in law, King Philip. The final chapters speak of modern day tyranny through the progressive income tax, and how we can draw from the lessons of history to forge a truly just system of taxation. Oliver Wendell Holmes famously said "Taxes are what we pay for a civilized society," but it's how we tax and spend that determines if we shall be rich or poor, free or enslaved, and whether that civilization will survive and thrive. If you are a history buff, you owe it to yourself to read this alternative viewpoint. And then you have the responsibility to tell your friends about it; it is that good.

Shaniya Astarini exposurebright — After reading "Elfshadow" I was intrigued to see what else would happend to Arylin and Danilo, and was a little dissapointed that Arylin only appears at the beginning of the book and that her role is inconsequential to the overall story. Yet "Elfsong" is a powerful, witty and smart tale that made me savor every page from beginning to end. Elfsong is not a stand alone adventure about Danilo Thann; rather, it sets him on the spotlight of a plot that endangers the past, present and future of Faerun. A strange spell is making bards forget the great heroic deeds of the past while the Lords of Waterdeep are being mysteriously attacked. To make matters worse, Danilo is forcet to become allies with "The Serpent" Craulnobber in recovering an artifact that ca save the city of Waterdeep, despite Elaith's hidden agenda. The book is filled with songs, prose and riddles as Danilo and his company attempt to save Waterdeep form a great catastrophe launched by a disgruntled sorceress. I found that I enjoyed Danilo even more in this book. I found it a relaxing read compared to Elfshadow and I found the mystery even more appealing, although the conclusion was much more simpler than the other book, which I found a little let down. Overall, it was a great read.

Nate Nutley _ate_ — I've never read any Stephen King before and I got the "extended, updated" 1200 page version. The beginning had promise and by the time I was at page 550, I couldn't believe how shallow the prose was, how cheesy the characters were and how lame, boring, drawn-out and not interesting the story was. I did not finish it. It was like cheap McDonald's for the masses' brain. Sorry Stephen King fans, but I won't be reading anymore.

Waeel El waeelels — You can just feel something epic unfolding. You really need to read the history of J.R.R. Tolkien to appreciate these novels, thats all I can say.
