Culture Map: Breaking Through the Invisible Boundaries of Global Business Whether you work in a home office or abroad, business success in our ever more globalized and virtual world requires the skills to navigate through cultural differences and decode cultures foreign to your own. Renowned expert Erin Meyer is your guide through this subtle, sometimes treacherous terrain where people from starkly different backgrounds are expected to work harmoniously together. When you have Americans who precede anything negative with three nice comments; French, Dutch, Israelis, and Germans who get straight to the point (“your presentation was simply awful”); Latin Americans and Asians who are steeped in hierarchy; Scandinavians who think the best boss is just one of the crowd—the result can be, well, sometimes interesting, even funny, but often disastrous. Even with English as a global language, it’s easy to fall into cultural traps that endanger careers and sink deals when, say, a Brazilian manager tries to fathom how his Chinese suppliers really get things done, or an American team leader tries to get a handle on the intra-team dynamics between his Russian and Indian team members. In The Culture Map, Erin Meyer provides a field-tested model for decoding how cultural differences impact international business. She combines a smart analytical framework with practical, actionable advice for succeeding in a global world. Vanesa Ivan vanesaivan — While I love Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series and I can't even tell you how many times I've read and re-read the first four in the series (Outlander, Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn) I just... sort of lost interest in the story after that. I don't really have an interest in Briana and Roger's tale nor do I care about what William is doing or most any of the other side-stories (similar to reasons why I have troubles reading George R. R. Martin and his vast array of character). With that said I have read everything up until An Echo in the Bone (including the fun side-stories of Lord John Grey) but only 100 pages into this tome and I found myself skipping huge swaths of the story for lack of interest. I finally - oh so sadly - gave up and set this book down with a sigh unfinished. An Echo in the Bone was not speaking to me and that hurt because of how much I love the beginning of the story and the memories attached to those first four books. Whenever I moved - whether it was from Japan to Australia to anywhere else - those were the books I brought (along with Jacqueline Carey's first Kushiel trilogy). They were that good! But this book lacked something for me. It is still written in the beautiful and detail-oriented prose that Gabaldon is known for but I can't find myself caring about the fates of the characters that are not Jaime and Claire. That certain 'je ne sais quoi' is no longer there for me. I don't think I'll be picking up any new Outlander books but I'll continue to re-read my favorite of the bunch and the fateful beginning of Jaime and Claire's relationship. Ah well. It was a good run while it lasted.

Mohammed Gharib mohgharib — GENRE: Paranormal Romance THEME: Werewolves RECEIVED: Won AUTHOR: Molly Harper DATE POSTED ON BLOG:http://seeingnight.blogspot.com REVIEW: After reading How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper I was ecstatic to learn about The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf would be coming out shortly after. From her Vampires to her Werewolves Molly Harper pulls together wonderful stories of humor, mystery and romance. The second book in her werewolf series continues right where the first left off. This time around we get to learn more about Coopers sister Maggie. Cooper in the first book is a werewolf as well as his family and pack members. Maggie is a snarky, tough, and down right stubborn alpha of her pack that she runs, while Cooper lives with his wife and baby in a town near by. Everyone from the first book is back again and as fun as ever in this second installment. There is some strange business happening around Maggie’s pack that seems suspicious. But worst of all is Nick, who is snooping around trying to find answers about the real existence of werewolves. Maggie will do anything to get him away from her pack and out of town. But he’s not so easy to scare nor can she deny the attraction she has for him. I love the humor that always comes with Harpers books, I’m always cracking up and smiling at the ridiculously funny situation her characters are always in. I have to say there is a part in the book where I was actually crying laughing because of a situation dealing with butts, and yes I mean a butt on a person. The mystery was great this time around too; I really had no clue what and who was causing all the problems for Maggie and was shocked when it was all revealed. Overall I love this series and I’m really hoping for a third because I can’t get enough of these great characters. RECOMMENDATION: This is an adult novel with sexual content that might not be suitable for younger readers. Fans of authors Katie MacAlister and Lynsay Sands will love this series.

Anthony Anthony salicndnc7e832 — The first morning that I woke up in France, I felt like I’d been lobotomized. Lobotomized, and then shoved in a spaceship and abandoned on a distant planet where the only thing I had in common with the alien residents was that we were both bipedal. I had started off the day trying to speak with my host-mother, only to realize that I was mistakenly still talking in English, whereas she (surprise!) was fluent only in French, Spanish and German. The shower was on a timer of some sort that I couldn’t figure out – it ran for three minutes and then shut completely off, and nothing I did could get it to turn back on again – and I’d had to rinse my hair in a miniscule sink next to the washer and dryer in my bedroom. I didn’t know the word for “vegetarian,” nor the words for “Please god don’t feed me anything with eyes,” and as a result for breakfast had eaten slices of what I believe in retrospect was duck. The fact that I was devouring animal flesh for the first time in more than a decade helped distract me from the fact that my host family kept their milk in a cardboard box under the sink. Following the mimed instructions of my host-father, I spent the afternoon loading peach-tree wood into the back of a trailer, occasionally looking from side to side in the desperate hope that someone would see me and say, “Girl, clearly you are not supposed to be here! Let me take you away from all this, back to the US, where things make sense!” And as an added bonus, I was notified by my university that the school was temporarily closed because the French students were rioting in the streets. Nothing made sense, I was exhausted and confused all the time, I was going to be miserable forever, and then somehow, suddenly… it sort of was okay. I made friends. I learned how to eat things that did indeed still possess eyeballs. I participated in riots. I communicated with words, not just with gestures. I met the man I would later marry. Although my ancestors made lengthy voyages across oceans to come to my country, and my soon-to-be husband is planning his own migration as I type this review, I clearly have no real understanding of the immigrant journey. But The Arrival, flying mailboxes and mouse-dragon pets and all, struck very close to home for me. Highly recommend.
