Blues 李 daisylee13cce8 — I held off reading this becuase of its mixed views, and sadly, I was disappointed. The plot and characters were interesting, but the writing wasn't great. The dialogue seemed forced and it didn't always hold my interest. My boys liked it better than I did. Hopefully the next one will be better.

Thousif Raza thousifraza — I like DeMille because he mixes in a lot of historical and cultural facts along with the mystery. And always a twist or two!

Ana Berbatovic 19anci94e7f2 — This book took me by surprise. I was expecting a Sconi David Sedaris - but the humor was missing (as were the uncomfortable experiences that have led me to avoid David's books - thank goodness). However, I tredged on and found I really appreciated this record of small town living. I grew up in small northern midwestern towns as well until my teen years. I enjoy a sense of community and continue searching for it in the city. This book was so human and moving - I found myself with a few tears at several points, despite reading this on recent flights. Although I did skip over the chapter entitled "Death". I tried - but that much of emotion is not my bag. That and my flight was a bit bumpy and I did not care to think that much about the subject. I thought I would revisit that section once on soild ground - but I am going with my gut on this... My biggest challenge with this book is growing up with soild northern Minnesotan boys and trying to picture Perry and relate him to someone I know. I can't... well my father is close - but his a city boy escaped in to the forest. Perry is unique and I am so appreciative of this work. I am excited to read his other books!

David Błażewicz davidblazewicz — A great collection of Turkish myths and folk tales. A fairy is raped. An ogre is so terrifying that camels piss blood and die at the very sight of his approach. Good times!

Oleksiy Osynovskyy osynovskyy — Modern tale for a "mature" Mike Hammer. A good read and in the true Spillane fashion, eventhough it was finished after his death by Max Allen Collins...Thanks Buddy.

Captain Carvalho viniciusap44d8 — After spending several months trying to make it through this book, I am finally putting it aside for now. I wanted to like this book, as it is on an important topic that hasn't been too well-covered in English yet. But the scholarship, if you can even call it that, is shoddy. The author does things like, for example - saying that it is plausible, given certain stated pieces of evidence, that a certain slave came from a certain society in Africa, and then later describing them as being that nationality that he himself had only said was a plausible possibility. These may seem like little things to the lay reader, but they're representative of his general tendency to jump to conclusions. It is a shame that this sort of writing has become so popular amongst laypeople who are interested in history. After being so disappointed in this book, I have finally decided to commit fully to not picking up any more contemporary books on history that don't have footnotes/end notes for specific statements. If you're not willing to back up what you're saying, I'm no longer willing to hear what you have to say. It's not worth the time it takes me to read far enough to decide that the non-footnoted book isn't what I'd wanted.

Martin Pluth mpluth — This book was so funny! It was so much better than the movie. So many good and bad things happen during it though. I would recomend it to boys and girls who love dogs or even like to read books that make you laugh out loud!
