In this installment of Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles books, I can honestly say it scared me. I made sure I double locked the doors, and it had me checking every nook and corner of the house! Gruesome homicides are occuring in the Boston area, which leads Detective Jane Rizzoli (with her partner Barry Frost) and medical examiner Maura Isles on a mission to find out who the killer is and to stop them. Another tragic/gruesome homicide, that involves another detective on the case, leads them to a group called the Mephisto Foundation - a select group of scholars who believe and try to stop evil entities. Entertwined in the plot is a family called the Saul's, who take in an orphaned cousin named Dominic...and this is where the evil begins....very well written, and very in depth. Definitely need to read a light book next! lol.

Just re-read this via the audio version. I loved it. The first half was better, as I found the second half a little slower. I found myself totally immersed in the world of the characters. Though it is fiction, it did make me stop and wonder about the stories of the women who are so briefly mentioned in the Bible.

I was immersed in this story: not just because of the mystery that's presented at the beginning; I enjoyed the journey to the revelation. My kind of book. Very much enjoyed it.

This book is very good so far. I just got to when John left his Aunt Mimi to live on his own while he was together with The Beatles. I would suggest it to those who are fans of John Lennon.. It's a very well written book. As my older brother put it. It's like the John Lennon Bible.

First, the book was good and insightful, hence it would have received a 3 star rating. Second, copy editor, copy editor, copy editor, why oh why is not more time and money spent on a good copy editor. Quite a few sentences needed to be reread to make sure I read what I read. Third, my copy was censored! All the nasty words where censored thusly, f--k. You still get the point but it is a book about Punk. It is just wrong. Dropped to a 2 star.

Ellis always delivers a scifi gonzo extravaganza, and this is no exception. This just felt slight to me, especially given how easily the big bad's plan is foiled. I'm also slightly frustrated that no one ever called Cyclops onto the carpet for getting it on with one of the team's arch-enemies. Jean and her memory just get swept under the rug. Everyone has an opinion about Scott's sins of murder, but no one cares about his sins of the flesh? I don't buy it. Best line of the book comes from Storm, of all people: "At this rate, one of Charles' old wheelchairs crossed with Brood DNA will be along any moment." Jimenez's art is amazing as usual, although Emma Frost looked rode hard and put away wet in most panels.

I read this book on vacation, and it was definitely an entertaining read. The book is about a mixed-race family living in a wealthy suburb of Boston. It's an excellent example of how to make an omniscient narrator work--Smith goes in and out of all her characters' heads, both major and minor, without skipping a beat. She also does some really interesting things with scene cutting, especially in some highly dramatic moments.

I couldn't get into this book, I found the female lead to flakey. I'm going through a stage where I'm only enjoying books with strong female leads, so that may have colored my judgment of this book

A perfect marriage between subject and prose. Or, not. Maugham's writing is rich and, yet, precise, his subject calculated, yet, mad. Maugham's writing is at once economic and explosive--he clearly conveys all that he wishes to convey, while concurrently impressing upon the reader the colors and emotions evoked by Gaugin's paintings. This text is also notable for its perfect execution of fictionalizing a very prominent and famous non-fictional figure.
