I really liked Hemingway's The Sun Also Rises, so I thought I would give some more of his work a try. This book was much tougher to read. Once the Old Man got out in the sea, I was a little bored, much like the way actual fishing would bore me. The story got exciting around page 75, which is pretty far in. I usually wouldn't give a book this long to hook me, but it was a pretty fast read. If I appreciated the sport of fishing, I think I would have found this book a little more engrossing.

This is an extremely interesting book that attempts to explain the universal human behavior to create art. She defines creating art as "making something special" and explains how this behavior has helped humans cope with uncertainty and the unknown and, thus, ultimately given us a survival edge over other species. She claims this behavior is just as important as our tool making and analytical capabilities. It is quite fascinating!

The movie was really stupid, and I'm almost embarrassed to admit to having read this. But I honestly enjoyed it quite a bit. I think it's kind of overrated, but a decent story nonetheless.

Down and Out in London and Paris and Burmese Days are my favorite Orwell books. I still like 1984 and Animal Farm a great deal, but these two are my favorites. I guess I like the true life stories better than the alegories.

This book was just okay in my opinion. It wasn't as good as I thought it was going to be. There was too much inner dialogue from the narrator that didn't really interest me. There wasn't enough action, I guess, to hold my attention. The story, in general, is good. I think that the movie version of this book would be better than reading it. I usually think the opposite of most novels. I'll have to watch the movie now and compare.
