Good story - too long for my style of reading and the story itself didn't deserve this many pages.

Attempt #2 to Read a Book Written by Dan Brown Pros: Cool pictures and factoids. Promising protagonist. Cons: Factoids made the story. Failed to keep my interest. Results: I have a pretty book with a meh story. But! I have a pretty book.

The plain, copycat step-sister to the first book, Hunger Games. The first third of the book shows promise, a promise broken when Collins returns our protagonists to the games. The story line from the first book is duplicated rather than advanced, and the characters show little growth. I hope book three is better.

For some reason I really loved getting sucked into the imaginary world on Olivia Joules and this book! It was silly and laugh out loud funny at times and very reminiscent of Bridget Jones. A feel-good book that is very easy to read!

Because I loved AS Byatt's Possesion so much, I keep trying to read other works by her. Unfortunately, this one was just too painful to get past the first 20 pages or so.

The Book Thief is a prime example for why young adult novels are for more than just young adults. I adored this book. I was swept away by the prosy narration, helmed by none other than Death, the immortal entity, struggling with and trying to understand human nature. Leisel (the book thief) is an orphan taken in by a poor foster family in Munich, Germany. The novel takes place between 1939-1943, from when she’s ten until she turns fourteen. The book revolves around her and the people of her life, from her mother and deceased younger brother, her kind, quiet foster father that taught her to read, and her brazen, gruff, and golden-hearted foster mother. It tells the story of Max, the Jewish young man her foster family hides temporarily, and Rudy, the boy-next-door who was Leisel’s best-friend and the boy she loved. It tells the story of the wealthy woman Leisel stole books from and encouraged her to write. And Leisel, the brave, wily girl who harnessed the power of words. The Book Thief is a heart-breaking tale set during one of the most devastating times in recent history. But it will make you laugh, cry, and reflect. Go read it.

I can't lie. It's junior high vampire romance fiction, and I read all four.
One of Pratchett's strengths is that his books are just as fresh and entertaining on the second or third (or fourth or fifth) reading. Every year or so I inevitable end up re-reading Terry Pratchett, and every time I walk away more enamored with him as ever. I've read Going Postal half a dozen times, but I laughed just as hard as I did the first read through.

I read this book before I got married, and it made me appreciate many of the pre-wedding tradition between women much more than I had before (even though many of the American customs have largely become material). This is a touching story of friendship with betrayal and all that fun stuff!
