Read this Book First in High School, Have re-read it at least once every two years since =) Frank Herberts Masterpiece, and honestly better than even Tolkien's .... ugh, I'll have to complete this review later ... at work right now =P

Assassin's Quest was phenomenal, the perfect ending to the Farseer Trilogy. I really enjoy Robin Hobb's writing style. She keeps me guessing while not being purposely confusing. She alludes to future events without being obvious, so by the end you're constantly facepalming "So that's what that meant". I couldn't put this book down, and I lost some valuable sleep to finish it, but it was well worth it!

Steffans sets out to write a cautionary tale, to dissuade young girls from becoming "bad bitches" like her. Unfortunately, while she finds plenty of time to criticize herself, and specific people who mistreated her, she never makes the theoretical leap to the big f-bomb, FEMINISM. I just wish she had taken five paragraphs to discuss misogyny in hiphop (eg why she's treated like a high class hooker for Murder Inc, the repeated accounts of domestic and sexual violence...) and why she felt that the only way she could gain power was fucking. And I wish she would learn the appropriate usage of the word "instantly".

** spoiler alert ** I might go back and change my rating later on after I have had more time to digest everything better, but I doubt I will. I have some issues with this book and let me start by saying it's not a bad book. Actually, it's an interesting book and it's written pretty well. My issue was Hannah. I didn't like her tone on the tapes, the smugness of knowing she was revealing secrets and the reason I didn't like it is because she played her part on some of those secrets but she isn't around to deal with the consequences like everyone else would be if those tapes got released. Then to torture poor Clay like that and have him think he's on that tape because he did something wrong is just awful. Hannah didn't get a lot of sympathy from me because Hannah, while I agree she was treated like shit, made some really poor decisions as well. And when Clay tried to reach out to her, she pushed him away. Then she punishes everyone for not trying hard enough. I wanted to ask her, what else could they have done? If one person begged you not to kill yourself, would it have mattered? Would it have been enough when the next event happened? I don't think so. I believe she was going to do it no matter how hard Clay or Mr. Porter tried to stop her and to blame your suicide on people who tried to help you to the best of their capabilities is just wrong. I don't know... I just didn't like her. And that is why I could only give it three stars, her voice kept me from loving this book. She should have stopped the rape, acted sooner about the stop sign, etc. But she didn't and now they have to live with it while she took the other way out and it's not her problem anymore. I just don't know how I feel about that.

I like chicagoland vampire series, but this book is a little disappointment. I hate it that the hero dies. Ethan Sullivan and Merit in the first part has been drawn to each other, and I was hoping that there will be something between them. I'm sorry that Ethan in this part dies, even if it saves lives Merit. Anyway, the novel is lively, Merit is a real brave, outspoken heroine. The plot is lively, and the end was really surprising.

I was expecting this book to tell me more about Ellen herself and her life. Instead it was just like one long joke - "I did this...ok, only joking, no I never" that sort of thing. I got boring. I didn't discover anything new about Ellen. The only redeeming feature was that it was over relatively quickly. Had it been any longer, I doubt I would have finished it.
