I couldn't keep reading it. I was over all the sadness and trials after the first book.

It took me a while to get into this one as I was getting confused with all the characters at the start. This book tackles quite a difficult subject in a way you don't normally find in a chick lit novel - but it was well written even if it was a bit sad at the end.

A very fast paced book. I really liked Penn Cage, the main character, who is a prosecutor turned author. This is actually book #2 in the series, so now I'm anxious to read Penn Cage #1.

An absorbing story about the history of New York told from the perspective of a character who is given the gift of eternal life in the 1700's. The story takes you through the early days of New York all the way through to 9/11. Captivating tale.

It was good, but a little longer than it needed to be. I think the plot could have been streamlined.

I thought I would enjoy this novel a lot more, given its subject matter. As my profile points out, I am definitely interested in reading about freaks, particularly circus freaks. This novel raises some rather interesting questions concerning the monstrous other, normality vs. difference, family, etc. However, the writing, I think, is a bit stilted at times. The character development is also a bit weak. The premise is certainly an interesting one, but I think the execution was not what it could have been.
There was one day where suddenly I scheduled three interviews in one week, the first in three months. I somewhat panicked. I went to the library and pulled out a huge stack of books on interviews. Most of them were not what I needed - basic stuff like "what are you looking for in a new job?" - but this hit the spot. The authors suggest you flip to the most relevant parts first, and I did. They talk about how to deal with illegal questions. They give suggestions. And, miraculously, it's not 100% focused on salesmonkeys. A great tips book, if that's the sort of thing you need.

I truly enjoyed many of Lackey's Valdemar books for years, but unfortunately, two things happened- she seemed to be recycling old stories more and more with little in the way of improvements, and I sort of grew out of her a bit. I always like Skif in the Arrows of the Queen books, and so I was happy to see a book just about him, but sadly, I think Lackey wrote it too late in time. I would have enjoyed it more if she'd written it when Valdemar was still fresh to her, or when I was younger.
