It's engaging in a different way to read a story after having seen it on film. The plot was familiar, but I enjoyed the descriptions, the character development, especially the way McEwan describes Robbie's fall from the life he had been anticipating. A good read.

Laural is faced with Tamani attending her school to protect her and David is jealous because Laural likes Tamani. They realize there's a mysterious faerie attending the school as well and Tamani takes it upon himself to flirt with her to obtain information. Sadly, this was the whole book. I was hoping to learn more about Avalon and faeries and mixing and a whole lot of other things. I wanted some meat to the story, some information besides Laural kissing both boys all the time and her wondering whether to go to college or go to Avalon for good. I didn't want the whole series to revolve around Laural and her typical high school decisions everyone has to make at that age. I wanted to read about faeries and mysteries and adventure. I guess that was too much to ask. I hope the last book delivers something!

Exquisitely written, like all of DiCamillo's children's books. I understand that the movie was not very good, but the writing is delicate, sensitive, and each chapter has an almost poetic start and finish. Symbolism is clear and traced nicely throughout the story.

I read this book a while ago, and at the beginning it was alright, the love/hate relationship was entrancing. But near the middle/end.. the book lost my interest for a couple chapters. The ending was delightful, but I already foreseen the ending right when I started the book so it was no surprise.

Some of the stories in this compilation are a bit boring, but on a whole I really enjoyed this book. Of course I loved the stories by Harris and MacAlister, but most of the writers are new to me and a couple of them are going on my wish list. I actually wasn't going to pick up this book after finishing quicksilver, but I enjoyed the ending of quicksilver, so I thought I would give this one a try. The Confusion was OK. It was a slow read, that wasn't always the best escape for me from my world of studying. The end of The Confusion was well worth the read, but I can't say that I really enjoyed every step of the way. It's more... if I hadn't read the middle of the book, there would be no way to enjoy the ending. Now, I am not ready to take on the third part of the trilogy at this time; but since I own The System of the World, I am inclined to believe that I'll be reading it soon. If nothing else, I learned that life is long and that many many things happen everyday. The surprising part is that even the smallest things can come back to make a huge difference in the end.
