Anglophilic, bibliophilic museum-goers - as well as fans of good science writing for laymen - will thoroughly enjoy this dense treat of a book. Fortey is amusing and informative, educating the reader on the importance of taxonomy and curation in the computer age while simultaneously sharing the dirt on the more eccentric of his colleagues and predecessors.
This book is enjoyable enough, but entirely predictable.

Timequake is about a rift in time, where existence gets shifted backwards a few years and must work its way back to where it left off. In this time, no one can change their actions, but they experience them all over again with a clear presence of mind. It's a look at a world with no free will, and what happens when free will all of the sudden kicks in on a world that has forgotten how to use it.

I read the first in this series a while back and found the second book to be significantly better. Seemed like a short book, but was a fun read all the way through.

I loved and thoroughly enjoyed this book. Although I haven't generally been a huge Stephen King fan, I do respect him as a terrific writer and storyteller. I've especially enjoyed his Entertainment Weekly columns on pop culture over the years, and have loved many of the movies based on his great stories. "On Writing" is part memoir, part reflection on the process and meaning of writing, and part advice to writers. I was captivated the whole way through. Although I, myself, am not a writer, I AM a reader, and found his analysis of writing to be fascinating -- I don't think I'll read another novel in quite the same way again. Much of the book is rooted in his own real-life personal and professional experiences, which makes it even more compelling. Learning the back-stories of how "Carrie" and "The Stand" and others of his works came to be, was fascinating. The final chapter, which tells the story of his almost-fatal accident (he was hit by a car while walking down the side of a road) is harrowing and moving. The accident occurred while he was in the middle of writing this book, so the telling of the accident actually fits in beautifully with the book's themes on the meaning and process of writing and the part it has played in his life. I highly recommend this to Stephen King fans, to anyone who aspires to be a writer, and to anyone who loves to read. (I forgot to mention -- I listened to the audiobook version, which was fabulous. Stephen King himself is the narrator, and his narration is wonderful.)

Ender's Game is a favorite of mine, and there are two strands of sequels to that original story. I prefer this one, which features Bean and the kids back on Earth. I have a wonderful memory of one summer at Folly Beach, shortly after we got our copy, which had been pre-ordered to arrive at publication, watching guyczuk and hazrabai in a reading race/marathon, side by side on the couch reading their copies. Beautiful beach weather, and they were holed up inside with Ender et al.

A friend in law school prevailed upon me to read this book. It was pretty entertaining. It left me with a general impression that law school is a deeply, almost ridiculously unpleasant experience for virtually everyone who endures it. I also, rather paradoxically, came away with a bizarre and somewhat perverse desire to take the LSAT just to see how I'd do. Probably not something I will ever follow through on, though the practice test on the Princeton Review site is strangely tempting . . .

This TWEEN literature is so ROCKIN!
Diziye harika bir katkı! Eğlenceli, kamplı ve türdeki tüm ışıltılı vampirin neden olduğu komalardan özür dilemek için yeterli nerd-dom! John şapka çıkarıyor!
