I am definitely an American mother-type. It was interesting to see how different child rearing could be, and it made me think a lot about myself and what I really want for my kids.

I usually love Steinbeck, but I couldn't get into this one. It's really short, but I've been trying to read it for 3 months and am still unsuccessful.

This was a quick, enjoyable read for my tween daughter and I. I found the plot a bit predictable, but DD was kept guessing until the reveal. We were both annoyed by the numerous places where the wrong homophone made it into the final copy (examples: "died" for "dyed" and "heard" for "herd"). The representation of the game world was extremely streamlined and simplified, but captured the flavor well enough I didn't mind. The RL bullying may have been over the top, but books where the conflict isn't larger than life tend to be less interesting and this one needed something to keep it moving forward.

This was brutal. An awesome read, so fast-paced it is hard to keep up. Like reading a train-wreck... but why isn't this a movie yet? Can't wait to read the follow up. Best part: cat in a bag.

One in the J.P. Beaumont series. I enjoyed it very much and would like to read more from this author.

http://nyx-shadow.blogspot.com/2011/0...

As you can gather by the name, Julie and Romeo have families that don't like each other, to say the least. Throughout the entire book, up until the end, you don't know exactly why the relationships between the Rosemans and Cacciamanis have always been in contention. And the funny part is - neither do they! Only one surviving family member knows the reason...and the do not let go of the secret very easily! One of my favorite aspects of this book is the background of flowers via the two florist shops. Jeanne Ray obviously did some research on this subject because her descriptions of the flowers and arrangements make the flowers pop out in your mind. The flowers are only second to the love that blooms in this beautiful garden of a book.

I started this a couple of years ago, but it didn't grab me, so I went onto something else. Desperate for a book recently, I picked it up again, and started it again (taking quite a while to realise I had actually read the start before!). Again, I didn't really like the start of the book, but got through it this time, and it was worth it. Once Richard is convicted and sent on board ship in London to await transportation, the story really starts to become interesting. I enjoyed reading about life on the transport ships, and the settlements at Botany Bay and Norfolk Island - incredibly difficult to imagine life in this time, but this book described it well. A great record of the terrible things people in power could do to those less fortunate, but also a great testiment to the power of the human spirit.

I enjoyed it. Much better than twilight, though it shared some of the same elements. I look forward to the next book.
