Wow. This poem has so many layers. First I would just recommend reading it aloud, listening to the sounds of the words, and then the second time through you can worry about what they mean. And that's really interesting, too. All the little historical references are so much fun to discover and puzzle out - seriously! And I don't even like this sort of thing usually, I had to read this poem for school. And guess what? I'm actually enjoying analyzing it!

Won this book through the Good Reads website...Some of the recipes look good and I will probably try them. The story that goes along with the recipes was slow and didn't really keep my attention. I just don't find reading about someone's boyfriends all that interesting.

A fantastic book with absorbing characters who you can easily emphasise with or begin to hate. A touching account of racial discrimination and sad to realise that this is only set less than fifty years ago.

My fifteen-year-old nephew and I will be seeing this movie together (How cool is that???), but I wanted to read the novel first. (Now I just hope I can convince him to read it too.) The pov is from the male beast, which I think is cool and interesting. What a wonderful surprise and treat it turned out to be. Alex Flinn did an amazing job putting a new spin on the BEAUTY AND THE BEAST story. It's touching, well written, and very much in line with our times. It wasn't hard to suspend belief and delve into this fantasy as if it were real. It was easy to fall in love with the characters. This is a great book for reluctant readers. I hope the movie sticks closely to the book - a tall order for sure. Will update this review after I see it.

a university press publishing a book about a song from the turn of the 19th century set in st Louis Missouri may not sound all that exciting or compelling, but this is well researched, has good balance of revisionist and feminist viewpoints, is well and entertainingly written, and shows very well, DON'T MESS with a guy's hat. Plus it's fun to listen to all the different versions of this song.
