4.5 stars this book was really good but i felt that it was missing something. i liked books 2 and 3 a lot more and colin was my favorite character. maybe because i felt i was going to like it so much and then i was a little let down. but i will definitely read on.

I could see recommending this to readers of Diary of a Wimpy Kid. But keep in mind that this would be what Greg would write about if his father passed away. Bittersweet.

This was a great book to read. I liked both characters' personalities. I see that this is the first book of the series and I'm not sure if the next one will be with the same characters, but I truly wish there was a sequel on them. I want to know how long it would take for them to fall in love with each other. Either way, I really enjoyed it and am patiently waiting for the next one. :D

This is so good that it reminds me of Lois McMaster Bujold's Miles series. Science fiction with a clever underdog protagonist that you really look forward to seeing win in the end.

So good! Such a complete story on many different levels. Nice surprise.

Violent thunderstorms and the electricity flickering on and off made me hesitant to work on my latest story. Yeah, the computer has a surge protector but still... plus since I need to look at the keyboard when I write, well, I was screwed. I gave up and snuggled down to read this book by flashlight. Loved it! Yeah, the main character is a alcoholic, fucked up mess of a woman, someone who hates herself so much she initially refuses to fix her own life. Refuses to accept she's more than meets the eye. Annabelle Lee is is already unusual, a human immune to fairy toxins, but as the story moves along, she discovers she's more unusual then she suspects. But the author has a way of making the reader overlook the disaster. There's a point when you're close to giving up on Anabelle Lee, so close, but suddenly Jay steers the story in another direction. She makes it work, damn, does she make it work. I'm not a huge fan of urban fantasy, but this book is more about a woman re-discovering herself than a woman needing to be saved by a "hero." Of course there's romance, allusions to sex and romantic conflict, but it doesn't dominate the story. Plus there's magic and toxic fairies. I also love the nod to Poe in the character's name. Nice touch. I definitely want to read more in this series. There, the storms have passed. Back to my writing!

I rarely read chick lit and its also not often that a random stranger asks me what Im reading when on public transportation... but of course the other day Im on the plane reading this when some young guy sitting next to me asks me what Im reading and this is the title I have to show him.. yes, super embarrassing..
Much of this story is just ok. But the ending, though people say it's depressing, was sweet enough to me. And Robin Hobb's picture like writing can't be forgotten.

I find the language extremely melodic, although sometimes it takes me a while to understand the idea. When in doubt, I check the Arabic translation, even though I find the English version of the sonnets more charming.
