King's Dragon is more of a fantasy novel, a surprising departure from his popularity as a horror fiction writer. Taking place in a medieval kingdom, it employs familiar archetypes and motifs: a monarch in decline, sibling rivalry, an evil, menacing wizard, and of course, a dragon. That may sound bland to both fans and non-fans of the genre, but King doesn't disappoint. It's a tale with finely etched characters, of suspense and intrigue, and ultimately heroism and triumph. His merit as a writer is the subject of much divided criticism, but Dragon proves that King is still a master storyteller.

Didn't like the ending. It felt like it was missing something. Throughout the book it jumped from character to character but didn't give conclusions to their specific story line.

I really enjoyed this book. Yes, there are some typos and some minor things such as overused words (foxy), but keeping in mind the experience of the writer and the fact that she is self promoting her work I was overall very impressed. The plot is solid, the characters approachable, and writing was better than expected. I've already purchased book 2. For having paid only .99 cents for this book it was well worth the price.
i loved thsi book :) john the savage was my favorite character ever :) lol he understood that you had to have pain to have true happiness...sure he was a murderer but so what? heh i hated that one guys whats his face? the other main character...watever he used john then dumped his so calle beliefes in the end

An excellent translation of a fantastic book by one of the wittiest figures of the Enlightenment. Candide was meant to be an assault on the work of Descartes and is certainly scathing in it's attack. This particular translation is easily read and carries much of Voltaire's wit and humor. It is not nearly as dry as many translations tend to be, and really let's you hear the voice of this man. And the cover of the book is hilarious. Really if you haven't read at least Candide then I am sad.

This book is great fun for mystery fans and fans of English Lit. I really enjoyed the alternate universe aspect, as well. At times I wish our world revered literature the way Thursday Next's world does.
This is RBP at his most awesome. It's almost ready-made for a Michael Mann/Robert DeNiro movie. This whole idea of the Broz crime family having family problems didn't start with the Sopranos. RBP really captures tense, hold-your-breath moments. Action scenes rock, and his spare prose keep it rolling. Didn't want this one to end.

The best parts of this book (particularly the sections about gangland Mumbai) rival the most riveting mob dramas a la 'The Godfather.' A few sections drag or beg further explanation, but more often than not, Suketu Mehta utilizes the ethnographic method to great effect. He covers Bombay nightlife, organized crime, religious pilgrimage and more. A great recommendation from a friend, and I have to second it.
