Wow. Vivid and beautiful and not at all dramatic.

I love this book so very, very much. A retelling of Beauty and the Beast-- thoughtful, and elegant. Beauty gets to grow and transform, not just the Beast. I almost, almost, don't mind that the Beast doesn't stay a Beast-- which always bugged me about the original fairy tale, really.

Overall, it was a well done conclusion to The Lost Series. I actually cheered for Desanji and Geary at the end. There's definitely more that can be explored in this universe, and I hope the author does so. Again, the descriptions of the space battles were a bit long-winded for me.

Was a very enjoyable read. A little bit of drama but nothing too stressful.

Was an interesting look at Cuba, especially since I don't know all that much about it, besides the basic history stuff. The most interesting part to me was the path from his childhood to his career as a writer. I could have done with less of the sexual exploits, but what can you do...haha. I would really like to read some of his fiction work.

John is an English professor at Stanford University. He is teaching several English classes on the topic of "Poetry and Environmental Awareness." I printed off one of his syllabi and have been systematically working my way down the reading assignments. I'm looking forward to hearing him read in Seattle later this week.

I learned that so many of the things we go through on earth are nothing in comparison with the joy and peace we will feel in Heaven. My favorite line in this book was something like: How can we say we 'lost' someone if we know where they are [Heaven:]? That line really spoke to me. There are people I cannot stand the thought of losing, but remembering that line MAY help me through it. That doesn't mean it won't hurt or that I won't miss them, but, based on what the author of this true story had to say, I can feel peace and comfort in the fact that we will be together in a paradise our earthly minds cannot comprehend. This was a very quick read, and worth so much!

if I was stranded on a desert island with only one book, this would be it. It has everything you need to know about life within its pages.
