Good conclusion to the trilogy. I'd give it a 4 if it didn't have swearing in it.

Overall I liked this book. I think she articulated well some ideas I had buried in my brain somewhere but didn't know quite how to express. I hadn't ever thought about the fact that the household used to be a productive entity and now it is almost completely consumptive, and I think it is absolutely true that the more we can move back toward producing for ourselves and focusing on our own families and households, the less we are dependent on the outside world to meet our needs and generally the happier we are. Still, I think that the radical homemaker way of life was pretty idealized and many of the problems with it are not addressed. While the moms she interviewed all seemed happy and their marriages were great, I can't imagine that that lifestyle wouldn't be lonely and isolating for some women. I feel isolated as a stay at home mom in a busy neighborhood. I don't think I have the patience to homeschool my kids. I also think that it is certainly no coincidence that most of her successful families had been given/loaned land or money by family members. Going out and buying 40 acres outright so we can quit our day jobs and live off $30k a year comfortably just not possible for a lot of us. I also don't think she considered how difficult it would be to give up health care for a lot of families, particularly if they have members with chronic illnesses like diabetes. Still, lots to like, and an interesting read!

Finally read this series which came highly recommended by sisters and a friend or two and was not disappointed! Loved the storylines, characters, and everything about these books!
movie tie-in? grump. i hated the parts where i noticed americanization. blah. that said, though, i was sick when i read this, very sick, and the brainlessness of it all was what i needed. oh, bridget.
Wow, the story was fabulous, but the end rocked!!!

This story is told by 82 year old Alex White... (AKA Alex Black...) It's the old man telling the "true" tale of what happened to him During and after he was injured in battle of WWI 1918, he was 18 yrs old. While fighting in Europe, He met a young British soldier in the trenches, Harrold Lightfoor....And that is where all the supernatural happening began for Alex. He went to Gatford England and bought himself a cottage in the beautiful woods.... Where he found out that the Faerie people were real, witches were real... Magic was real. I listened to this book in it's Audio version and I think the narrator Bronson Pinchot was spot on as 82 yr old Alex. I think that had I read this without Mr. Pinchot narrating with such skill I may not have finished this book. Pinchot had me enjoying the tale. It was truly like listening to an 82 year old man tell me a story. With all his meandering and going on tangents... That is what made the story worth while. If I start giving details I think that would be too much of a spoiler... You need to have Alex tell you his tale in his way. As with all of the Matheson books that I have read they are good but they "just" miss the really good, just miss, something.... Yet I keep reading his works because there is enough there to enjoy. 3.75 out of 5 stars
