Really liked this one. While my father in law is suffering from this disease it was nice to get look inside Alzheimer's.

Now this is still one of my all time favorites along with The Long Walk, a novella included in The Bachman Books. I actually saw the movie of Thre Running Man first and thought it was great. When I discovered it was a Steven King book, I was so excited to read it. I was surprised at how different it was and yet still really good. Then I checked out some of the other movies based on his books and couldn't help but laugh at them all (except the original of The Shining). Man, how could a man so good at telling stories make such bad movies? Anyway, this is one of the dystopia books that I love so much where the world has gone awry and the underclass is not much more than chattel. In this version, the underclass guy wins, but the world is no better for it. At least that's what I imagine happens after the book ends. What gets me is the fantastic vision of the future that I was left being able to feel in my mind.
interesting mystery but a bit childish. i would rather recommend this book for 10-year olds

Well... it kept my interest, but there were parts of it that I really didn't like. I have no idea what Webster even saw in Sheila. The end was good, at least!

When I finished this book, my first reaction was 4 stars, but the longer I dwell on it, the more I like it, so I gave it 5 stars. I really loved this book because it kind-of ended up being one of those refreshing, life-inspiring, somewhat life-changing (or perspective-changing anyway) books... which is what I least expected from this novel. I always love being pleasantly surprised (who doesn't?). It kind-of had the intrigue of a good mystery story, too. The storyline: Alice hits her head, wakes up & thinks she's 29. Actually, she's 39. She can't remember anything from the last 10 years. She thinks she's shy, a little chubby, in love with her husband, and pregnant with her first child. Actually, she's outgoing & feisty (possibly even bitchy), skinny, in the middle of a divorce with her idiot husband, and has three children she doesn't know. As bits and pieces of memories come back to her, and as the "older Alice" pops out every now and then (like when she snaps at her kids), she puts them together with a "young Alice" perspective, realizing that she doesn't really like who she has become. It becomes a powerful story of forgiveness and understanding things from different points of view. If you read this one, be sure to read the Epilogue.

The author had such a strange childhood that I wasn't even sure how to feel about it through most of the book, but it was wonderfully written and very different from other memoirs! She was very fortunate (financially and there never seemed to be a question whether she was loved or not) but it was sad and heartbreaking at the same time. Sad that she didn't find out the reasons for her mother's sadness until it was too late to effect her childhood.

** spoiler alert ** Fun story about a single working mother and her teenage daughter. The author tells about their busy lifes through notes they leave for each other on the refrigerator door. Funny, very realistic, and bittersweet. Be ready to shed a few tears, as the mother battles breast cancer. Loved the story format.
Fabulous book. I enjoyed his insights on life. They made me appreciate my life all the more. Five stars!!!

This was the perfect way to end the summer - a total guilty pleasure...I loved every contrived plot twist.
This book was a very enlightening and descriptive and I really enjoyed reading it. The only thing is, it had strong language throughout, so I wouldn't recommend it if you don't like books with questionable language.
