This book contains the most inept narrator in all of literature. And it's so much fun to laugh at him.

This book is retarded. Someone recommended this book to me and I am not sure who or why, but now I'm thinking they were playing a joke on me.

This came with an order I made for work. It's also on my desk, I pick it up and read it when there's not much for me to do.

I loved, loved, LOVED this author's first two books, and this one was great, too. Even though it is a young adult book, I think any reader would enjoy it. It tells a story of a teenager who was abandoned by her mother and the trouble she has dealing with her lack of history, while at the same time giving clues about a group a kids who lived in the same town years before that are somehow connected to this girl. It creates a sort of mystery-feeling that helps move the story along, and there are a couple spots that need the push to get past the angsty-teenager pages. I see that in this book as well as the author's previous books that most of the problems for her teenage protagonists, the thing that sends them over the edge and makes all the adults suddenly worry and pay attention, is that they aren't told all the information. The adults around them, trying to "protect them," hide information. The teenagers want the answers, especially this character who doesn't know who she is or where she came from. And when you're at an age where you're trying to define who you are, not knowing is a big deal. Worth running away and getting in trouble over. My only issue with this book is that that tragedies seem a bit over the top, the people a little too damaged, but it's worth over-looking that minor flaw.

I give it two starts not because I liked it that much, but because it made me laugh in public while surrounded by strangers and it was readable. Her writing skills stressed me, I couldn't follow her writing that much. My first language is Spanish so, when I was reading something I felt it wasn't important or simply boring, I skipped it and didn't give it a second thought, I just read it and if I didn't understand something, I couldn't care less. I'm certainly not reading this again in my life and will stay in my shelf remembering me that I liked the movie better because it was focused in Julia more than in Julie.

I have the greek edition, by Eκδόσεις Κέδρος. It is an interesting book, gives the I Ching its wholly Chinese vibe, along with the respective illustrations that give the book its edge. This book is more useful for understanding the cultural basis for the use of the I Ching, its history and logic, than it's for actually using the I Ching for "divination". The hexagram explanations, I find, are a bit off, but then again maybe it's stuff lost in translation. It's helpful for someone interested in the philosophy and workings of the I Ching, but it's in no way a definitive edition. Plus, the title in greek is written "Ι Jing", which I find annoying to no end.

Adult son reading dying dad's memoirs from WWII and following, working out identity, and finding unexpected friendship are all parts of this novel. Nicely told story.

I actually really liked this book. It's not quite as fascinating as the Fablehaven series, but it's a great example of tight middlegrade writing. The great thing about young adult books, esp. middlegrade, is that they shouldn't wander off onto tangents. Everything written is essential to the plot. And this plot is very intricate in a way that you almost have to read twice, but is still accessible to an 11 year old. I was blown away by the end of this book and I want to slap my forehead and say "Of course!", but honestly I would have never guessed it. I really appreciate books for young readers that don't pander, but really try to stretch people to think harder and read better. We have all read young adult books that are just fluff and don't push you to grow, but how great are those books that do push and still captivate interest? I recommend this book to anyone who comes in contact with 11 year olds or stays in touch with their 11 year old self.
