I picked this book up one day when I ran out of reading material and was too lazy to head back to the apt for another book. I'd read about Meg Wolitzer but never read any of her books. This was fascinating. It really sparked me to be into reading more books about families as opposed to the single protagonist. Great for anyone with memories (or interest) in the 70s even though most of it takes place in present time.

Very comprehensive and a little complex, but deffinately covers everything.

This one was emotionally charged for me. I very much enjoyed it and I loved Willow and sympathized with Amelia. Lovely family. Tough subject matter. Gut-wrenching ending. I would HIGHLY recommend the book. I loved it.

this one read a little slow for me but I love Anna's writing.

Set aside for a moment the premise of this book (the author visited heaven before returning back to earth) and this book is still worth reading, especially for anyone who has struggled, or is struggling, with a major life crisis. Piper is honest about how he felt throughout his entire ordeal most especially the down moments in his recovery. His willingness to bare his honest emotions connects directly to the reader and it moved me to tears at times. Even though Piper's accident and recovery does not mirror my wife's in most ways, this book spoke much more to our situation as a family than the previous book I read (A Stroke of Insight, by Jill Bolte Taylor) which spoke more directly to the events of Meredith's condition. I would recommend this book for anyone struggling with any aspect of life. Of course, I do think that his commitment to his faith in Jesus Christ is critical to understanding his story, but I imagine that his story would still be compelling even to those whose faith differs from Piper's.

Hopefully I'm rating the right book--my introduction to Lovecraft was with one of the old Arkham House editions, brought up on my request from the bowels of the Norwood Public Library. A classic in every way, this collects the best of Lovecraft's work. Required reading for anyone with the faintest interest in modern horror, sci-fi, or fantasy; Lovecraft's influence runs deep. Good reading besides.
The first book I ever read about gays and certainly the first time I encountered the topic of homosexaulity conveyed in a sympathetic light. Also a wonderful novel - you can't put it down.
Hilarious, great read, plus you'll learn a lot of useless but interesting information.
