3.5 Cynthia, is beautiful, charming and broke. She was the oast of the ton until a duel in her name made her into a social pariah. Her new friend, Violet Redmond, invited her to the country for a house party. Miles Redmond is left in charge of the party. Both are attracted to each other but can't be together, their lives have been planed out. Miles needs to marry money to fund his tropical expeditions, because his father refuses to spend any more money on him. Cynthia needs to marry money to survive. I liked that there was no big misunderstanding, Cynthia and Miles were honest with each other and both admitted to their attraction and the need to stay away from each other. Some of the scenes from the house party had me rolling my eyes, like the over the top gypsies and the dog obcessed suitor.

This book might not be everyone's cup of tea as it is a fantasy. However, I really enjoyed it. It brings out the life that Chinese women were expected to live. Even though they were kept behind the scenes it is interesting to see the development of these strong female characters. There is an incredible description of footbinding. It isn't as if we aren't aware of this past practice, but the description was so vivid it made me cringe.

I really enjoyed this classic protest novel about the Chicago meatpacking industry at the turn of the 20th century. It tells of treatment of workers and meat in the stockyards and processing plants. The book lead to actual agricultural and labor reforms and the creation of the FDA in America. If you enjoyed more current works such as Fast Food Nation, The Omnivore's Dilemna, or My Year of Meats, I recommend that you take a look at The Jungle.

I found this book with my stuff and didn't even know that I had it. So far I really like it but it has made me feel really lazy. These maids take care of the kids, and do all the house work. After hearing about a typical day I thought wow. I would normally rate this book about a 4.5 but I thought the language (swearing) was a little bad so I dropped it to a 3.5. Other than that I loved the book. Stockett really draws you into the charactors. I sitll think that I really don't work all that hard, my bathrooms are lucky if they get cleaned once a week let alone everyday. I also wonder were the white society women really that snobby? Is that a Southern thing going to league meetings etc, and would really one person have that much power and influence as Hilly did? I did have one question about the book. On page 417 almost at the bottom,Lou Anne is telling Skeeter why she loves her maid so much "The doctors want me to go to Memphis for shock treatment...she covers her face but a tear slips through her fingers. For the depression and the ... TRIES," she whispers. What is/are the TRIES. I had never heard of that if anyone has an answer I would love to hear it.
Tragically Beautiful Story about five year old Jack and his Mom. Written from the perspective of Jack and his experience of his short life in "ROOM" and his new scary yet wonderful exploration of the "Real World". A Must Read - I'm so glad someone is writing good fiction these days!

I enjoyed this book immensely. Of course, therein begs the question- how the hell could he remember it? I asked myself the same question as i was reading the Keith Richards book. Then, I quit asking and continued reading. The one thing that shone through Ozzy's book is that you can tell- he really wants to do the right thing. I can't say the same for Keith! Ozzy clearly is nuts about his wife, and during the last half of the book(and espicially during his wife's cancer battle), you get the feeling that he would've rather called it a day and watched the History Channel all day or spun Beatles records. Having delivered that, I have to say that Ozzy is great. Even though I still wonder if he doesn't have a ghost writer we don't know about( or Sharon, who should be nicknamed Superwoman), I enjoyed this book a ton.
When I finished reading this book I really want to go and see all of the things that are mentioned in the book. I wanted to visit Vatican City.

Quite disappointed - I had high expectations for this retelling and it just let me down. I really didn't like Silas nor Rose; and the twist? I figured that out about chapter three.
i liked the way the story was told for the most part.
