I enjoyed this immensely. The language is simple and beautifully crafted. The ideas are simple and immensely powerful. The simplest things are often hardest to understand; Coehlo's writing is patient. Coehlo refers to a tiny emerald with the secret of the universe engraved on its surface. If there can be a literary equivalent, this is it.

This book is what I like to read in adolescent lit. Just a story. There's character development, growth, sweet decent romance, and realistic teenage situations. I really enjoyed myself.

1973 Newbery Medal Winner The wolves were not really enough to hook me on this one--I became more interested as Miyax's back story was explained in the second part. However, in my immaturity I did enjoy sharing the gory details with Hubby: Miyax gets peed on(?) when she joins the wolf pack, eats a wolf's regurgitated stomach contents, tries to suckle from a wolf's teat, eats crane fly larvae, chows down the entrails of some owlets and the liver of a caribou (the candy of the Arctic, yum yum!), and collects Caribou poo for fire. ** spoiler alert ** What a great book. I'm still thinking about it. So much to discuss, it's a great book club book. Can't wait to talk about it with my group! Some notes I want to get down: I'm not sure how believable it was that Martha was able to move around so much and not arise suspicion. And, that she was so close with so many of her students. And, that they never asked her many questions about why she was traveling alone with a baby. And, the fact that Pete accepted her word for everything and married her. If I were in that situation, I don't think I'd ever be sure that they were telling the truth. I'm still not sure what happened in one of the beginning Homan scenes. What were the man and woman trying to get him to do in that building? A drug deal?? Perhaps the author was being purposely confusing to show things from Homan's point of view. Words cannot express how sad I was for Lynnie and Homan. The things that were done to them and how they were treated--it was just heart-breaking. What happened to Lynnie's parents? After reuniting, did they just give up on her? And her brothers too? Ugh. I just can't imagine. As a mother, knowing what your child went through in that school, and then abandoning her again. I would have thought that her mother would have done anything for her at that point. I read in another review that The School is loosely based on Pennhurst State School and Hospital (originally called Eastern Pennsylvania State Institution for the Feeble-Minded and Epileptic). As a life-long resident of PA (AND living within 20 miles of this place for practically the entire time), I can't believe I never knew the story of this school. Crazy. I don't know what modern-day name we would give to Lynnie's issues. Did she just have extreme developmental delays? She seemed to progress so well with the right speech therapy. But, then she lived in a group home until she was reunited with Homan.

I really enjoyed this first of a series and intend on delving into the others! I am surprised by the way Patterson was able to nail 4 different characters of women, being a man. I liked their characters, I liked the plot and twists and I loved that Patterson did not feel the need to wrap everything in a bow and give a happily ever after to his readers-it was gut wrenchingly ironic.

Dragon Ball - Tập 16 Thư viện Sách hướng dẫn

This book was okay. I liked the overall storyline, but it got kind of repetitive. It went kind of like this, he sees a monster he runs away, he sees another monster he kills it, he sees another monster and runs away, etc. Then it starts getting better. The second book which I'm reading right now is AWESOME so I would read this book just so you could get to the next book(s) in the series.

According to this anecdotal tale by Balzac, there was little possibility for a young student, however brilliant, to break into government or the professions -- these being occupied under the July monarchy of Louis Philippe by middle-aged and elderly no-talents. Two students, one in medicine and one in law, named Charles and Juste respectively, are rooming in grim 6th floor lodgings and discover a leonine young man named Z. (for Zephirin) Marcas, who is living under more straitened conditions than they are. They befriend him and listen to his complaints about the sad state of the French ministries. Twice, Marcas had worked for a politician, and twice been betrayed by his envy. When the politician comes begging to Marcas's apartment to give him a third opportunity, he turns him down. Charles and Juste, having overheard the conversation, barge in and ask why he didn't accept. When Marcas admits he has no appropriate clothing, the two friends put themselves deep into hock to help him out. What finally happens disgusts Juste and Charles, who leave France -- one for Asia and the other for the Americas -- agreeing with their friend's original assessment of the grim employment situation.

I did enjoy the first book and the other 2 following, but am currently unable to get through the 4th of the series. I find the idea interesting and challenging for Christians reading the series, but it just seems to have stalled for me.
