This is a great book if you have any interest in twins. I found some of the data on the relationships between twins to be fascinating. There is so much that is genetic when it comes to personality. Also the history of twin studies is nicely told. I didn't especially sympathize with the personal story of Elyse and Paula. But they are brave for being so open and honest about their 3 year journey.
Josie's series begins to shape up in #3. The characters have a little more depth and Josie's not weeping at the drop of a hat (or am I getting used to it?) and the plot was a good one, especially weaving in the Artichoke Code and the history behind it.

I marvel at what Mortensen was and is able to accomplish. I liked the descriptions of the peoples and mountains of this area. This was the first selection of the APALC Book Club! We had a nice discussion today. Thx to friends/coworkers/book clubbies Bernice, Rachanee, Karin, Emily, and Bonnie.

While I've seen a number of Sherlock Holmes movies and TV shows over the years (The most recent BBC series, "Sherlock," being my favorite), this was the first time I'd ready the actual stories. This collection is an excellent starting point. Containing The Hound of the Baskervilles and Doyle's favorite twelve short stories, bound in a stunning clothbound edition from White's Books, this is a great collection. I was already familiar with some of the stories from their film adaptations, but it was fun reading the originals. One of the most interesting things I noticed is how the more recent adaptations seem to combine elements from multiple short stories into a single movie or TV show. In terms of readability, all of it is of a rather easy affair; something to pick up and read for an hour, getting lost in the fun adventures of Holmes and Watson. A perfect light, summer read. I don't think any of the stories will have a profound effect on me, but that's just fine. These are adventures, meant for the reader to get lost in, and sometimes that's just what I'm looking for. If you're new the Sherlock literary canon, this is a great place to start.

A distinguished economist, Loury speaks wisely about the political economy of race here. He describes a vicious cycle of tainted social information that has resulted in a self-replicating pattern of racial stereotypes which rationalize and sustain discrimination. This book changed the way I think about our country's allowance for the development of black capabilities.

After the 'meh' of the first volume this one seemed to slip nicely into gear and did actually feel like vintage Spider-Man. The second story set in a blizzard reminded me of those PP:SM one shots with interesting random baddies, great interactions and wonderful imagery. The scenes with Spidey and the bum in the snow was great. If it keeps this way I think they made the right choice re-booting (though I still believe they did it in the worst possible way).

i enjoyed this book, pretty outrageous food stories... good writer
This book is amazing, and brings up so many interesting big ideas about the purpose of life and identity, and all kinds of stuff, all while profiling a really interesting guy and telling a compelling story. This should be the book she's famous for. Don't be put off if you didn't like Eat, Pray, Love. She's much more insightful when she's not writing about herself.

Wrapping up loose ends from Season 7, developing a new world of empowered slayers, and giving me more Willow, Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8: The Long Way Home is my new favorite thing. My only complaint is that Jeanty's artwork makes it rather hard to tell who anyone is when they are not introduced. Except for Willow, the characters here only slightly resemble the actors who originated the part. I had an especially hard time with Andrew. Joss, however, proves that he is a genius of all media, writing graphic novel just as well as he does television and movie scripts. What I would love is to have novelisations of these books, as I'm not terribly well-versed in reading the Graphic Novel style and had a hard time following it. This is more my failing, than the book's, though, so no points off. (As though I could rate anything even remotely related to Joss Whedon anything less than full marks.)
