This is one of the better "self help" books! Really dives into the inner self and who we are and why we do things...really good for people who want to explore the reasons behind their behaviors....

I actually first saw this book on an episode of my favorite television series “Reading Rainbow” and I really enjoyed this book! “Animal Café” is a children’s book by John Stadler and it is about a cat and dog duo named Casey and Sedgewick who privately own an Animal café without the knowledge of their human owner, Maxwell. “Animal Café” is a clearly wonderful tale that children will love over and over again! John Stadler has certainly done an awesome job at creating a world where animals go do their mysterious businesses during the night beyond the human eye. What I really loved about this book was that it plays on the classic animals doing secret and awesome things behind the humans’ backs scenario and it was so interesting seeing the kinds of crazy activities that all the animals do in Animal Café, including doing song numbers and making unusual dishes. One of the most interesting characters in this book was a grouchy pig named Cutlet who basically ate everything in his path and it was so hilarious seeing him so bloated up after he ate all the food at the café. I also loved the idea about a café being made for animals to enjoy conversing with other animals and man were the results hilarious and creative! John Stadler’s illustrations are somewhat simplistic yet extremely hilarious, especially of the images of the different kinds of animals that showed up at the café including an elephant who was a professor of a college, upper class alligators and birds and a retired colonel kangaroo. I also loved the illustrations of Casey and Sedgewick themselves as they are dressed up as waiters and I really loved Casey the cat’s green outfits for his show stopping sequence and Sedgewick’s blue vest which makes him look distinguished. John Stadler’s illustrations of all the animals doing human activities which include dancing and conversing with each other were extremely creative and enjoyable to look at. Overall, “Animal Café” is a brilliantly clever and creative book about what secret activites animals do at night that children will definitely get in to. I would recommend this book to children ages four and up since there is nothing inappropriate in this book.

(4.5 stars) Little Bee is a Nigeria refugee. Sarah is a magazine editor living in suburban London. This is a story about how their lives are connected, what circumstances made that connection so strong, and how their relationship unfolds. And all with great insight within the story of how each of them got to where they are. Told in alternating perspectives this was a story that I could not put down. I had to find out the back story and then I had to find out how it all ended. A book that will not disappoint, although it may leave you with a heavy heart.
Very disturbing but interesting look into the life of a real princess in Iraq.

I have long been a fan of Bill Bryson. His wry humor and fascination with history, humans and science, have earned a place on my bookshelves as part of my permanent collection. At Home did not disappoint. In fact, it ranks right up there with my all time Bryson favorite, A Short History of Nearly Everything. Finding himself living in a Victorian parsonage, Bryson examines the history of our living condition, room by room. That’s not to say it’s an in-depth look at how, say, the closet came into being; but rather a vicarious examination of whatever popped into Bryson’s mind when he pondered both history and the room at the same time. For instance, we learn about food preparation, spices and dining tools when visiting the dining room. A trip to the drawing room elicits a discussion about architecture. I have to admit, Bryson’s topics were not what I expected. As a woman, I naturally think of social changes and technological innovations that changed the way we live – like educating women and the washing machine. But then again, Bill Bryson is a man, and one with a keen interest in science. It shouldn’t have surprised me he chose topics he was interested in. Luckily for me, I found them fascinating, too. And of course, Bryson doesn’t just make them interesting, he injects quite of bit of that wonderful wit as well.
The premise of this book was a good one; the Borgias are a fascinating family and can make for a great story. While I think this was a decent book, it moved kind of slow. I did enjoy the characters and Esther made for a very sympathetic narrator.

Even though I'm not a fan of baseball, this was a fascinating book about economic theory and how it can work in the real world. Highly recommended.

This was just what I was looking for...a well written novel that held my interest for a quick read. My first by author James Patterson - but won't be the last when desiring something of a mystery / crime novel. Can see why he has sold alot of books.....

I particularly enjoyed reading the background culture on Greece/Turkey and the immigrant sagas.
